Thanks guys. I am feeling that it is the closest to gas you can get with electrickery. The energy saving comes from only heating the pan and not the environment and when you turn it off there is no hob to cool down. When I get it I will do a you tube to show how I get on with it. I feel it is the hob equivalent of the microwave to the conventional oven. Some of you may know I live a minimalist existence on a boat and i hope this will complement it. Thanks again for your feedback.

Microwave ovens are fast, but they're not efficient in terms of energy. It takes much more energy to heat a given amount of food with microwaves than it does on the stove or with an oven.

My mom thought it was a cool gadget to have when she replaced her broken stove and she absolutely hates it. I've cooked on it a few times and wasn't all that impressed myself.

Oh those things.....now I know what a hob is. Yes I have and I replaced it back to a new Gas top within 6 months. I found it too slow and the temp to not be reliable when doing confections etc. It is ok for everyday use but I like to fill up a freezer at Christmas with fudge and other sweet goodies made on my stove top.

Induction is efficient at heating somthing, but it isn't efficient in a sense that energy used to create any heat is always inefficient and expensive.

Actually microwave ovens are very efficient compared to a conventional oven or stove. Electric ones are the easiest to compare. A 750 watt microwave uses about 1 Kw and will heat a portion of, say, lasagne in 3 minutes using 0.05 KWhrs of Electricity. A conventional oven has to heat up to temperature and then takes 35 minutes so 10 mins at 2 KW then 35 at, say 750 watts = 0.77 Kwhrs

Cooking vegetables in a microwave takes about 5 minutes for 3 people = 0.083 KWhr

To boil a litre of water alone at 100% efficiency starting at 15 degrees takes 0.09 KWhr followed by 10 mins at say 500W giving a total of 0.17 KWhr and that is assuming the 100% which is actually probably nearer 50%.

what i like about induction cooker:

1.boils water in a sec.

2.saves energy.

3.fancy looking and fits in modern houses.

what i don't like about induction cooker:

1.only certain kinds of pans/pots u can use.

2.limited cooking ability.(much harder to control than gas stove)

3.its just limited in many things. i mean, i suppose its one of those things that is figured out and then try to make it fit into our lives. i prefer the other way round.
