So, for about four years...Starting with 2006, I'd imagine, I've been coughing 'phlegm' up on a daily basis.

It ranges from a general 'oh, there's a discomfort in my throat' cough to remove it, to a few seconds of 'my god, I can't breath' then cough. I've seen about 3 different doctors, on different occasions, and no one seems to really more or less been able to explain this to me.

I'm becoming slightly more concerned now as I've now, on three separate occasions, noticed small spots of blood within the phlegm being coughed up. Not every time, mind you, but it's a new occurrence.

So, do I waste time going to YET ANOTHER doctor who will likely be unable to tell me what's going on, or will I be alright? Any doctors in the house?

Okay this sounds really serious. It's been happening for 2 years and sounds like it is getting worse. It is unlikely it will resolve on its own after this time. If I coughed up blood out of my lungs, I'd be in a panic and screaming and yelling at every doctor I could find.

Lung cancer or TB are the two things that need to be ruled out.

See a doctor, a gay porn forum is not the place to seek advice about things like this - even if there are doctors on here.

I'm not sure what specialty was of 3 different doctors that you saw but given the description of your symptoms and the duration, you should probably see a pulmonologist.

I saw about four General Practitioners; and one specialist/nurse(?) for breathing tests into their machines and a chest x-ray and such.

All they could tell me was a slight diminished lung capacity; which one doctor said was probably just caused by being out of shape.

No one's ever said a word about the cough and the phlegm it produces though.

And for the record; never smoked a day in my life.

It it were me, past the second GP I would have been phoning around to locate the best lung specialist in my area and made an appointment. I don't know how things work in your parts with the medical system and insurance, but it seems like time for you to get serious about it.

That's the problem with socilialized medicine. I suppose you can wait a few years for the specialist appointment, no choice, unless you're rich and can come to the states for speedy treatment. It does sound like something serious though. I've had symptoms like yours but they go away within weeks or a month. 2+ years is a long time. and the blood is concerning.

reaper,
anytime you have blood in your sputum it is indicative of a serious situation. you have already indicated there is a COPD consideration here (diminished lung capacity) and you MUST get to a pulmonary specialist as in yesterday couldn't be to soon.

come on man, i (and others) like you a lot so, PLEASE take action now. we want you around for a long time to come...ok, end of lecture. will be watching for further developements re this issue. so keep us advised.

dude3, i am not blowing smoke here, i've lost 2 family members and a very close friend to pulmonary issues and in fact am being treated my self for a COPD of 40% diminished capacity. btw my COPD started with the daily hawking and spitting routine but i ignored it for a year and a half, stupid me.

my thoughts and concerns are with you!!!
