this thread kinda reminds me of chris rock in his stand up comedy when he's talking about not one white person in the room would trade places with him and he's rich, there's a white one-legged busboy that'll take his chances, see how far this white road will take him, that's how good it is to be white, cuz when you're white the sky's the limit, and when you're black the limit's the sky.........

I would trade places with Chris Rock in a heartbeat.

I'll admit that I was being a bit general with my responses, but anyone with eyes can see I had several people comparing me to the lowest common denominator of blacks, all the things I said above.

They talked to me about hard work as if I'd never heard of the concept. "Hey Marley, ever heard of hard work?" . . . . ..|

You made that thread about you and you became a crusader . . . that's why it was closed. Had you kept it 'on topic' the discussion might not have deteriorated.

First off, sorry Marley for missing this at the beginning.

I do need to have a check put in my hand or be patted on my head and told "Were sorry". It would be bullshit anyway. To me there is no amount of money or level of apology that would cancel out any of the horrible things done in the name of slavery or under Jim Crow.

Here we are now, and just because there is a chance that a black man can be president, we are all up in arms about race, and racial issues. It just simply bullshit. Do you really think that it is gonna change anything? NO. Whites will always fear what they don't understand.

My great great great grandfather own 200 or so slaves, on my fathers side of the family. I have seen the property statement for what he owned and I can tell you that it makes me sick to look at it. His farm animals held more value to him that his slaves. But do I care that I am a direct decendant of a slave owner and one of his slaves. NO, not really. You don't have to pay me because of something that happened in the past, but respect is what I demand from anyone no matter the color or status.

MIDNIGHT77: You made a comment about how hard your "white" friends have to work to make ends meet, and that you are doing the same. Do you know believe that most blacks do the same thing. Why is it so easy to believe that people think that all blacks want is a check every month. NO. When I was growing up I watched my Aunt clean houses 6 days a week for whites, and she had 6 kids she was raising on her own after her husband died. Of course she had her family to always rely on but she mostly did it herself. This lady died knowing what it meant to work hard all your life. So don't assume that is just whites that feel the need to work hard.

I am just tired of all the bs and trying to be so pc about race. It is just what it is, it is okay for you not to like me because of the color of my skin. It's not gonna stop me, and it isn't gonna stop blacks from doing what they need to do aswell.

As for Marley, you blocked him because he was defending himself. You guys talk about pride and supporting it, but yet you try to shut him up for expressing his pride and concerns about being black.

BTW HAPPY B-DAY MARLEY(*8*):sex:

Thank you so much for getting it! It's a bit late in the game for "I'm sorry." Let's all get on with life and make what we can of it for the short time we're here on earth!

In the philippines the Friendship Tower was put up by japanese buddhists as a friendship and peace offering between the 2 nations, its celebrated on the day the japanese celebrate the birth of buddha and the eve of Araw Ng Kagitingan, which is the philippine Day of Valor commemorating the fall of Bataan to the japanese empire and the Bataan Death March during WW2. Its not an apology but its at least an offering of peace and friendship in hopes to move forward..........

We are mankind, we will never truly understand what we are not, whether man or woman, gay or straight, white or black, because we all have a limit to what we can perceive. Even the so called "experts" on the male/female sex who are female/male have read resources on the subject by male/female authors/scientists/thinkers.

Me, I've dealt with enough in my life to know that people will never understand why I think the way I do, why I'm gay, my political and ideological standpoints, whatever is different from them. For example, I will never truly understand why a gay man, hell, anyone with intelligence, would vote for McCain.

As to the question, I would say, I will stay myself. Because I understand myself more then I would a black version of me, mostly because, and I don't mean to be racist in this, blacks tend to think differently then whites on many different things, because of centuries of slavery, abuse, and disregard that the North American society(mostly the US) has given them and their ancestors.

Has the Japanese apologized for:

1. Pearl Harbor?

2. The Rape of Nanking?

3 The way they treated Prisoners of War?

4. The Battaan Death March?

Both Hiroshima, and the way Asian Americans were treated after Pearl Harbor, and the numerous examples above were during a time of war, and of great fear and panic. From what I can tell, men act differently during those times, turning on neighbors they've known for years(in the US) or breaking the Geneva Conventions regulations on POW care(which I have a sneaking suspicion the US also disregarded in some way as well(and which the US has been proven to do now) for whatever false reasoning. When someone is viewed as an enemy, you will do whatever you can to do harm to them, whether it be by butchering millions in an attack on large cities with WMD's (btw, I don't agree with the US dropping the nuclear bombs on large cities) or performing experiments on POW's(which as far as I know, has not been proven without a doubt)

^ not gonna say i agree with EVERYTHING kenny posted here

but most of it ;)

apologies by those who did not act inappropriately is ..........

inappropriate

and

unnecessary

and elongates a dialogue that needn't be in the first place

one thing i like about BO is he doesn't play the JJ/Rev Al card that way

I want to issue a very brief response to this.

Yes, I do believe Blacks, in general, work hard. I never said they didn't.

And I never assumed it was just Whites that were working hard. However, what I took out from Marley's statements was the general implication working class Blacks have it rough while working class Whites have it easy in life ... which is not necessarily the case at all.

Both undoubtedly are working hard to survive.

.......

On a side note, I would just like to say to the Mods that I appreciate the opportunity posed for this level of discourse regarding one of the most controversial topics in this country today. If anything, being blunt and upfront allows for both sides to understand each other better ... regardless of whether they agree or disagree with each other's positions. Even though we may not agree, allowing for this level of discourse is far better than not talking to each other at all about this topic.

Again ... thank you.

Question guys?

If god came back today and linded up every white person and asked them to choose between being black or white.

What would you choose? Think about it and why you would choose, and them maybe you can answer the quesiton yourself about racism in america.

Why can I only pick black or white? There are other colors out there, you know. That you split it into only black and white indicates a hangup on that overly simple dichotomy.

I'd actually like to be Native American, myself. Baring that, white. It simply is what I am, and there's no reason to change something that isn't broken...and that's so unimportant.

What about you? Would YOU choose to be black, or white? Answer your own question before asking it of others. ^_^

ICO7 Let me be the first to welcome you to the world of a black man.

Now you know how it feels to be lump into a group just because of your color, being hastly generalized, being looked at as guilty just because of what one person did or said.

WELCOME.

Huh? So black men have a monopoly on being discriminated against?

All my life I've been treated differently by people for various reasons; I'm good at math and talk like a "smart" person, so everyone thinks I can solve their problems or help with intellectual things (I can, but that's still being treated differently...people also expect me to already know and be able to do everything on my own...) I'm short (5'4") and always have been. You want to be treated differently, shrink down to where everyone mistakes you for being 15 or 16 years old and try that for a few days.

And I'm not Hispanic, overly Native American, a woman, a middle-Easterner, or any of these other groups that are also discriminated against.

...do you REALLY think that only black people are subjects of discrimination and being stereotyped? Everyone, every group on Earth is. You have nothing that others' don't when it comes to it, just a different kind. That you think you do and others do not makes you wrong.

Welcome to reality. It sucks. But if we work together, we can make a better world. But that takes moving past the self. And that's something that mindset you currently possess will prevent you from doing for the time being.

As for race, I don't care. I won't get pissed off with people because of the color of their skin. However, I will get pissed off with them because of the content of their character.

Oh yeah, and I also wanted to say that Marley didn't get attacked because of him posting that thing, but rather because of him not listening to people and him doing the very things he accuses others of. (Though I suppose I should be more specific, but...)

It's not because that he's black or that he's asking for handouts or lazy or anything. It's because people were pointing out things that contradicted his points and he didn't take much notice of very many of them.

AND, it's hardly 99%. 82.6% of statistics are made up on the spot. ^_^ If anything, it's below 40%. A lot of people are being nicer than they probably should and not attacking him, it's only the few that are attacking him that you're noticing, Mb, not the many who aren't...them being the vast majority (not a mere 1%)
