You just gotta trust me...I have truly tried so many diets, but I am always so hungry. I would start out losing, then get hungry and fall off the wagon, so to speak.

I currently am working on exercise. My cardiovascular system is such that I can't do much yet, but I am working on it.

So, I want your opinion.

Appetite Suppressants. What do you know about them? Have you been on any of them? How well do they work? Which ones work best? Stuff like that.

I know of a few appetite suppresant. The Brand name may be different in certain countries so you may have to google the for more information.
1. Reductil / Meridia (us) <generic name = sibutramine>
2. Panbesy / Duromine <generic name = phentermine>
3. Teronac / Sanorex / Mazanol <generic name = mazindol

Have you tried Xenical? You don't have to go hungry with that although the oil leakage is a major inconvenience.

Decreasing appetite by means of drugs may help for a while but once off them, most will put the weight back on and then some. Also many have side effects that perhaps just don't make them worth it.

One way of dieting as well as changing your habits concerning food is to eat everything but use portion control, take small portions ie., instead of a dinner plate use a salad plate. Eat up to 6 small meals a day. Don't use food as a means of comfort or dealing with stress, limit simple sugars, flour products.

Now that you are exercising, it will help as it will naturally lower appetite.

Overall the biggest help in weight loss or control is changing our habits concerning food as well as our attitude towards it. We are all creatures of habit but they can be changed and it takes about 3 months to make it pretty much hardwired in. Same with exercise or anything we attempt.

Good luck.

I am currently taking SYMLIN which is a recently FDA approved product made by Lily. It is used (primarily) in conjunction with diabetes medication (I am insulin-dependant) and it has been successful for me (thus far). So much of the medication one takes to fight diabetes is appetite stimulant, that this is a welcome change.

I've never been satisfied with any of the so-called appetite suppressants for weight loss. Frankly, none of them work very well long-term (success rate beyond six months is almost zero). They can sometimes help a little in conjunction with other weight loss approaches; but frankly, if there was anything that worked well long-term, everyone would be on it, and everyone would be thin.

It's unfortunate that you are unable to get some cardiovascular work in, because that type of exercise has quite surprisingly effective, long-term appetite-suppressing effects. Even walking is a very effective appetite suppressant - not to mention the calorie-burning and muscle-conditioning benefits.

You can eat and still loose weights. Try gooling "negative calorie foods". If you want to loose weight you need to SPEED up your metabolism... not slow it down. You need to eat but eat small quantities more often. Some great foods for this are strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, apples, grapefruit and most veggies. Cut out the carbs.

My Brother used to be way over-weight and at the start of this year i got him into exercising mostly cardio, he used to get all the time and now he has it under-control, ok first off what makes you eat alot and try to replace fatty foods like cakes with fruit, i drink tea/milos during the day if i get hungry and try breaking your meals in half and eat the other half like 2-3 hours later and run whenever you can for cardio but walk first to build up to running then say 1 month in to the walking add a 5 minute jog at the end and add another 5 minutes next month and you should be fine

One thing that really helps is eating several small meals/snacks throughout the day instead of 3 big meals. I lost 60+ pounds and I rarely ever went hungry and still ate a lot of junk food. The biggest part of that was eating smaller portions evenly spread out throughout the day. Also, guzzling a lot of water before and during a meal helps fill you up.

I have lost 60 lbs since January and have not dieted per say. I have not used any supressant do to they are not a life long alteration. I will give you a lowdown on what I did to lose and I was not hungary.
1. first I stopped going to any fast food restaurants
2. I never called it a diet I just simply said im loosing weight.
3. I decreased my restaurant visits to no more than once a week
4. when going to the grocery store I eat first, do not buy any sweets,
chips, soda (I use crystal light now because soda will bring on hunger).( I only buy such things as meats, potatoes, vegetables,
eggs ect. and if I get a craving for something sweet or chips I dont
deprive myself, I just have to get off the couch and go to a vending
machine and get a small candy bar or bag of chips). This takes effort
and I generally wont go and buy it. I do keep popcorn and hard boiled
eggs on hand to snack on.
5. I am now at a platou at 200 lbs and its driving me crazy, so I have cut
beef out for a little while and use such things as ground turkey, and a
lot of chicken and fish product until I lose 20 more lbs.
6. If this does not work than I will take the advice of most doctors and eat 6 small meals a day ( probably my meat then two hours later my vegetabls, then two hours later my potatoes ect). they say you dont get as hungary this way.

Good luck and hope this helps a little.

I am about to give up...

I am borderline qualified for lap-band or gastric bypass surgery.

Try, try, try, and no luck.

My blood pressure is back out of control...my feet and ankles are swolen...my back is in terrible shape...and I am genetically doomed in the diabetes field.

I have been with weight watchers for a while, and the one thing everyone swears by is.....water!......if you feel hungry, drink a pint glass of water (slowly) then wait for about 30 minutes and see if your still hungry.

the trick is to eat little and often, have several well spaced smaller meals with healthy snacks rather than 3 big meals.

if you really want to try an appetite suppressant than pleeeeeeeeeeeease read side affects and ingredients carefully and dont use for longer than a 2 week period with a break, or try herbal diet aids......

just remember that you still need a balanced calorie intake and plenty of water or any kind of pills you take to help will be useless.
If you dont eat enough during the day your body will think it is starving and go into panic, it will hold on to fat stores, you'll just end up feeling hungry and not losing any weight.

its ok to..."cheat"....if its done right...if you really need chocolate then dont go for a cheap chocolate bar, get really good belgian chocolate or green & blacks organic...you wont be able to eat as much and it will satisfy the craving quickly.

I would also recommend joining a local group, or even an online one, to talk to people, get low fat recipes etc.....its a lot easier than trying to do it on your own.

edit:
and remember, there is no such thing as a failure (failing off the wagon hehe) just small set backs......if you cheat a little one day, just make up for it the next day by having a healthier meal, or do an extra 15 minutes of excercise to compensate.
get low fat cook books from the library and try to plan your meals for the week and make sure you have all the ingredients needed in the house (so that you wont be tempted while at the supermarket)....sometimes all some people need is a routine :)

Well, I guess I'll be the bad JUBBER who tells ya that the diet pills work. I know that phentermine (Adipex) works well because I saw it during school. A lot of people took it to stay awake and study so yes, it's easy to abuse and become addicted to. However, it really does stop you from eating. I noticed that one of my bigger classmates had lost a lot of weight which I just assumed was stress since I was having a hard time eating too. But no, he was taking phentermine and said that it makes food taste bad and makes you feel full of the time. You can take them for three months before they stop working which is plenty of time to loose weight. I know that the pills are supposed to be addictive; but, a lot of my classmates took them for the entire three years of our education and no one failed out. I'm not nec saying that it's what you should do especially since you have high blood pressure but it may be worth a try. Try going to a nutritional clinic or finding a doc to write you a prescription.

You can order the pills online too BUT don't get them from a foreign company b/c that's illegal (and unsafe).

Good luck and hang in there!
