Apple had an iPhone application "to cure gays"

if Apple pulled the app because it was a fraud, I'd agree with you.

but they pulled it because people complained and they bowed to the pressure.

if they get a million straight customers complaining about a pro-gay app, do you think their response will be different?

Apple removed the application because they believed that the numbers who had signed a petition for the application's removal was sufficient evidence that they might be losing customers, and that would impact on their bottom line - Profit.

I have never heard of an application that presumed to transform heterosexual people into homosexuals. The same argument would apply. Sexual orientation cannot be changed.

We can only guess as to why Apple approved the app and then later pulled it. With Apple's way of operating in secret, we may never know. The primary vetting procedure at the App Store Acceptance Dept is making sure a submitted app complies with the SDK and Apple's rules. They test the app on an iPhone or simulation in xcode to make sure it doesn't crash the iOS system or cause nasty things to happen and to verify that it only uses Apples API's and is not built on an external framework. It would also be checked against their guidelines for pornography, anti-hate etc. There are currently 350,000 apps for the iPhone with new ones arriving at Apple by the thousands. I believe the approval process is a 24/7 operation. To think that there would be any ongoing communication between Tim Cook and the App Store Acceptance Dept. is beyond my comprehension. I believe there is a correlation between Apple maintaining a healthy profit margin and acceptance of apps. It could just be that it was a case of looking too carefully at the details of how it worked rather than seeing it as an obnoxious and useless piece of crap like many of the other 350,000 apps. Pulling it was a smart business decision. Don't you wish your phone carrier was as responsive? Having said that, I know developers who liken the submission and approval process to tossing a rock over the fence. You do and you wait. If they don't like it they click on *reject* often without much or any explanation and toss it back. As far as approval of Grindr type apps, they are allowed but are subject to the customer "signing" that they are over a certain age and understand the type of material not just when the app is purchased but every time a new release is downloaded.
