Apple (AAPL) will double its share of the U.S. and Western European PC market share by 2011, the research firm Gartner said today. “Apple’s gains in computer market share reflect as much on the failures of the rest of the industry as on Apple’s success,” Garner says.
Actually, Gartner issued a series of 10 predictions on the future of the tech sector today. Here are the rest of them:

By 2012, 50% of traveling workers will leave their notebooks at home in favor of other devices, including “new classes of Internet-centric pocketable devices at the sub-$400 level.”
By 2012, 80% of all commercial software will include elements of open-source technology.
By 2012, at least one third of business application software spending will be as service subscription based, instead of as product licenses. The software as a service model “will enjoy steady growth in mainstream use during the next five years.”
By 2011, early technology adopters will forgo capital expenditure and instead purchase 40% of their IT infrastructure as a service.
By 2009, more than one third of IT organizations will have one or more environmental criteria in their top six buying criteria for IT-related goods.
By 2010, 75% of organizations will use full life cycle energy and carbon dioxide footprint as mandatory PC buying criteria.
By 2011, suppliers to large global enterprises will need to prove their green credentials via an audited process to retain preferred supplier status.
By 2010, end-user preferences will decide as much as half of all software, hardware and services acquisitions made by IT.
Through 2011, the number of 3D printers in homes and business will grow 100-fold over 2006 levels. With a 3D printer, users send a file of a 3D design to a printer-like device that will carve the design out of a block of resin. Printers priced under $10,000 have been announced for 2008, “opening up the personal and hobbyist markets.”

i would never buy apple unless they uses the same programs as PCs

If you boot in xp or vista, you use the same programs. If you boot in Mac OS you have easy to use applications unless you are using Office 2008.

My car takes regular unleaded and my partners takes premium fuel.

What happened to freedom of choice?

freedom of choice here is like:

NTSC and PAL cameras,

they are NOT compatible so companies can make more money.

then you're in luck. With Apple, you can use both the Mac platform as well as the Windows platform on the same machine. That, in fact, gives you more options.

And not just more options...in many cases better ones.

Easy to use is debateble. I have never hated a program as much as I hate iMovie. What a piece of crap that program is.

It isn't difficult to use. A 5 year old could use iMovie, it is just the program itself is difficult and some of the ways it does things.

I just found Movie Maker so much better on most things.

IDK, maybe it is because it was on a iBook from like 2004 and it was the old version of iMovie. My Media Tech lab got two brand new Mac Pro's and it has the new iMovie. I will see if I like the new features.

Gee guys, this was a report in Barrons from the market research firm Gartner. I would not have thought it would be so contoversial but I see blackwolf has posted 3 times out of 9 posts. I haven't a clue what he is babbling on about because he is on my ignore list.
As an aside, it has been reported that Apple has increased its orders for computers by 20% over the same quarter a year ago. This would seem to substantiate Gartner's predictions.

Re: Apple to double its computer market share by 2

I found the earlier versions of iMovie to use as well..my favorite version thus far has been iMovie HD (part of iLife '06). I'm really on the fence about iMovie '08, because it's a fairly radical change from iMovie HD.

The good news was that Apple seems to see that people really liked HD, so they're offering it as a free download to people that have purchased iLife '08. See what you think about the latest version though...some people report really liking it.

according to analysts the ps3 will be number one and the wii a distant last that is what was being said a year ago the moral of the story analysts have no fucking idea ..|

Re: Apple to double its computer market share by 2

I highly doubt it, even thou computer users are becoming more familiar with computers and understanding them, they are understanding them on a Windows level if Mac wants to gain market share it'll have to replicate that level to become somewhat familiar to them otherwise they wont put the effort into changing,

Only the dedicated change to Mac imo, I have Macbook and I never use Mac OSX fuck that shity incompatible OS (sorry but its true) I use Windows XP thru VMware its the only way I could be bothered to have a Mac they are great computers but terrible if u use windows and everyone does use windows in the real world

Still it would be nice to see Microsoft loose its monopoly and Apple gain a bigger share, thou with the popularity they'd become greater targets for hackers and lose their virus free status which mac fanboys hang onto so dearly
