Did not expect to see Aptera's Hermes prototype on the road with actual traffic.
Aptera Motors Corp. is a 2019 crowd-funded startup planning to produce solar powered electric cars.

It looks like their luggage is rolling along side them -- like if they take a turn their suitcases might not follow.

It also all looks very vulnerable. Including the passengers. I don't recall much talk about safety in the video.

Oh, and it's another horrible fishbowl where you are constantly on display. Imagine slow stop and start traffic.

Even if it runs on potato skins it's still a fucking car.

At least it has some artistry in its design, compared to some vehicles which kinda look like the wood blocks I played with as a child in the dirt. lol

I guess it's kind of cool...unless it rains, or snows, or hails, or sleets, or drives on ice, or hits a speed bump, or a dirt road, or climbs a mountain road, or .......

The automotive press has issues with Aptera.

Development is stretching beyond a decade, prototype testing is not on schedule, as a three-wheeler the Aptera can not be licensed as an automobile in some States and motorcycle status can impose restrictions which vary among several States, insurance carriers may refuse to cover any vehicle without a standard classification across the entire nation, the vehicle could pose a driving hazard in inclement weather.

Lengthy development may be a sign of trouble for Aptera Motors, investors might already be past the nail-biting phase.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), doesn't have standardized ratings for three-wheeled vehicles and it is up to individual auto insurance companies to provide (or refuse) coverage for such vehicles provided it can be licensed in your location.

The Future looks Cool . . . but it ain't Free.

Of course they are being taken for a ride.

We have, over the years, invested in electric vehicle start-ups with no expectation of return as a one time thing.

And it usually only takes about a year before you see that that we're all being played for chumps.

A couple of times, I would just average down as the stock neared the bottom and in a dead cat bounce, basically broke even...but 9.9 times out of 10, the principals have stuffed all the capital up their noses in white powder and laughing all the way to their next grift.

There is an incredible but true story about a bubble car. People in cold war East Berlin would do anything to escape to the west side of the city. Hiding under the back seat of a car had been done before, now the guards were wise to that trick. But what if you used a car that was so small that it would be impossible to smuggle anyone out in. There was no car as small as the bubble car and therefore no car less likely to arouse the suspicions of the guards. If this was a script for Mission Impossible it would be rejected as too implausible but it really happened.
First look at the spare wheel compartment, cut that away then we have an entry hatch to the secret space. To the right is the heater pipe, remove the heater to gain a little space. Then remove the air filter, the engine will work without it. The route from safe house to safe house is only a couple of miles so we can take out the petrol tank and just put a cup size bottle above the carburettor. The exhaust pipe can be moved to gain a few more precious inches. Finaly, and this is how deeply they planned this stunt, the rear suspension was stiffened so the back end would not sag down, warning the guards that there was unexplained weight in the baby car.
The escaper had the journey from hell, crammed in a tiny space, it was hot, noisy, smelly and dangerous but life in East Berlin was so depressing that the ordeal was worth it.

Amazing! Imagine the danger involved in this entire process. It all sounds like the plot of a movie, but a lot of people lost their lives trying to escape to the west.
