What is the point of having a twink wearing butterfly wings throwing out glitter on a float for 10 blocks with bad techno music? How is that pride ? Every time I see this I just want to distance my self from the gay community. We want to be taken seriously yet we keep Having events that is hard to justify.

Have Pride in something you have earned and work for not something that you were born with .

sure they are........they bring a shit load of money into Toronto every year.

money talks

By the same logic, I assume you believe that the carnivals in Rio de Janeiro make all Brazilians look silly.

It's just meant to be a day where we celebrate who we are and enjoy ourselves and have fun.

It's not as if none of us aren't serious and concerned when need be, about any number of issues we have to deal with.

And P.S. away from the cameras and attractions at these events, you'll find most people perfectly ordinarally dressed.

One thing I do is not judge the younger members of our community.

It's easier to be gay now then ever before so pride might seem just a freaky party to you. To us older guys it was a march for equality. A fight for our rights as citizens.

I'm sure there a lot of events in your city other then the parade that can show how much we have progressed since Stonewall.

Go have fun and remember that not so long ago some of us lived in a deep dark closet. Coming out and seeing the light of freedom is pride.

They are not necessary. People know if what you are is gay; you do not need to wear a big sign on your forehead that reads "i'm gay". pride parades are stupid in my opinion because they just draw to the public the stereotypes of gay men which are grabbing ass, sexually aggressive, wearing tight clothes showing alot of skin, some dressed as women, feminine like behavior with their gay ass music. to answer your question no its not a necessary thing but if they take away the pride parades then a particular group will bitch and moan so that's why they still have them

stay home and hide in the closet

when someone comes knocking don't answer.

i don't wear flashy clothes, chaps or thongs but I do cheer the guys that do.

our pride is our sexuality.

free to be who we are

Tennessee just made it illegal for teachers to say the word "gay"

gay kids are still killing themselves

yeah, I'd say we need 'em.

and, for me, seeing thousands & thousands of gay folk all together gives me

a smile that lasts for a couple weeks.

Is it that time of the year where all the pride haters are in full force?

what haters?

You are not gay and you have no pride in gay people.

why would you even care whether there is a parade or not? how does it affect you? perhaps if you stopped talking to gay people online, stopped choking the chicken to men in secret and came out, you would respect the pride that others have in living an open life as the people they were born to be.

Perhaps if you got out and met a man, you would understand how enriching living an open life could be for you.

That message is the importance of gay pride.

To let people know there is NO shame in being attracted to men.

Chicago has a great parade. A lot of fun floats. A bunch of local politicians (including the openly gay alderman from the 44th ward, where the parade takes place, Tom Tunney. And, I assume, the newly elected openly gay alderman from the 46th ward, James Cappleman). Parents happily marching with their out adult children. Friends and family of those who have been lost to AIDS. Various LGBT organizations that help those with problems in the community usually have floats.

Whats wrong with some of the floats having hot guys in really tight shorts dancing around?

I was once on a float that was attacked by a group of gay men. We had to beat them off.

all people a all people

internet ans da list country poptwats no can figure it da pain of ages

da time now is xactly backwards

thnakyou

I find it obnoxious when someone who is young, that has never been part of a group that has oppressed in some way, complains about the way a group celebrates.

And Stevexxx: 403 posts on a gay/bi message board? Good thing your wifi works in the closet.

But I'm not emotionally attracted to men. a man being with a man is perfectly okay. i just dont think a parade is necessary for saying "yes gay is okay". its just a disappointment people do not have thick skin

Thats not what its for and if you ever have the courage to come out to US much less the rest of the world you will understand that.

In the meantime?

Go associate with people you are more comfortable with and stop bothering the fags.

Two issues here, which is why people have problems comprehending my point of view, I think.

1. Pride is the opposite of shame. It helps to think of Gay Pride as "Gay Not-Ashamed" festivals. Our way of saying "For centuries, we were told to be ashamed of what we were . Fuck that. We're not going back."

2. The gay pride symbol is the rainbow. That's not accidental. It's meant to symbolize the various aspects of the gay community. We're not homogenous. We're a group of people with a commonality. We're businessmen and leathermen. We're athletes and go-go dancers. We're politicians and theater folk. We go all over the spectrum. And ALL should be welcome in the parade. And ALL should be welcome to be themselves in the parade. The gay politicians aren't asked to "camp it up" when they're in the parade, so I don't see why the go-go dancers in the rainbow thongs should be told to "tone it down" when they're in the parade.

Lex.
