I have had a chronic headache for almost two months. Is that something I should see a doctor about?

I use very little caffeine.

The headaches are making it hard to sleep.

Sitting in the dark with my eyes closed seems to help the best beside acetaminophen with a bit of caffeine.

The pain seems to be on both sides and on top of my head. It is a dull ache that changes strength thru out the day.

It depends on whether you're prone to migraines and whether this is a change.

If the headaches are new or the pattern has changed, you do need to talk to your doctor about it. He may want to send you for an MRI and possibly to a neurologist for a migraine workup.

If they determine it is migraine, there are new options for both preventing migraines and relieving them once they start.

Twice, or three times now over a period of 3 years I had unexplained headaches that lasted for weeks. I tried all sorts of things such as cutting out caffeine (I love my diet soda) and drinking lots of water (in case I'm dehydrated), also bought a huge neck and upper back freezer-ice pack, and nothing seemed to solved the problem. I did get temporary relief with one tylenol and one advil. Finally I got an appointment with my doc. He said, I think it is a stress headache. Try getting a massage or go to chiropractor. I did the ladder since I have one I use when needed. I would have went for a massage cut didn't know of any personally...and those available in my community saw clients in their home (like an office visit). I got some relief after one chiropractic session and it took another session to get rid of the stress.

I have since purchased a huge neck and back vibrating massager to try the next time I get a stress headache.
