No, but people who take themselves for smart may start to suspect they had been getting stupider by taking really stupid people for intelligent persons.

Misinformation, either intentional or not, is a foe of wisdom. When people don't obtain knowledge from the right source OR refuse to do so (for various reasons), they seek for other sources. Here's when half truths or even blatant misinformation comes to place. Bonus point when people select data they want to believe in.

To some other people, the truth would shatter their ideal conception of the perfect world they're living in. They hope that by denying the truth, they could stay cozy in their fragilen bubbles of ignorance.

And the rest who don't belong to the two above, they're simply selfish. As long as they can remain right in their mind, they'll continue to reject anything which go against them because the last thing they want is to lose or to be proven wrong. In their mind, only their fallacious thoughts fitting their fixed agenda are the truth, and they immediately erect an impervious barrier. There's nothing you can do about these people other than avoiding them to avoid getting stained and protecting (when possible) everyone around them from getting poisoned by their behaviours.

You can fix stupid but you cannot chip through a stonehead.
