Are speedos back in fashion for lap swim?

At my community pool, snug fitting swimwear has been predominant for the lap swimmers. About 25% of the guys wear loose fitting trunks, the other 75% wear jammers, speedos or square cuts. For years it was mostly jammers, with some of us old guys wearing speedos, and a rare square cut sighting. Recently it seems that guys are moving away from jammers to shorter suits. I'm seeing a lot more square cuts and speedos, especially on young guys.
I home this trend continues. I never really understood why guys would wear a jammer. I brough one, and gave up on it after one wearing. It just felt like a lot of excess material, and was no less revealing of my bulge (small, LOL) than a speedo.

I don't think I've ever seen a speedo wearer at our local pool. Regular shorts seem to be usual. I'd never heard of jammers, I had to look it up. Presumably they're called that because they're so tight they get jammed between your cheeks. White swimming shorts are a rarity—they tend to become transparent when wet, for better or worse. Women accompanying small children are advised not to wear a two-piece because a child might clutch at the top part and pull it off.

I wear a speedo for swimming. I guess about 50% of the guys wear them in my pool, mostly adults. The younger and older guys rarely do.

I used to swim laps 4 days a week. I always wanted to wear speedos but was a little hesitant and self-conscious. The baggy trunks were a drag in the pool, but I guess I have always been a little more comfortable walking around in them. I’m in pretty good shape with a swimmers build so I probably should not be self-conscious in them, but I am. They are more revealing and I do love seeing the right guys wearing them. They remind me of sexy underwear and that could get me in trouble. Lol

The fist time I wore a speedo for laps I was worried about being self conscious. After the first few times wearing one, I realized nobody cared. Guys wearing speedos for laps, regardless of they body shape, is just something people expect. It's kind of strange, as in most if the USA people would look at you like some kind of pervert if you wear a speedo to a beach, but don't think twice if you wear one for laps.

I'm old enough to remember that time. Suits were optional at the YMCA when I was a kid.

I once swam for exercise. Initially, I just wore regular trunks. Pirmary motivation: they were cheap at Target at the end of summer. I didn't honestly think there would be benefit to a Speedo-type suit. But at some point, I decided to try one, and found it worked much better--even for a lackluster swimmer like me.

Competitive swimmers will even use special drag suits as part of their training.
