Are There Any Gay Mormons On JUB?

Ninja does have a point. Or, to put it another way, "Why are you afraid of the truth?"

I'm personally agnostic, after being raised Catholic. I do know a few Mormons, and they're OK folks - to me, anyway. Do I believe their religion? No - if I did, I'd be a member. Is it silly? No sillier than any of the other ones, I guess. But as long as I personally haven't experienced any ill will from the practitioners, I don't have any problem with their belief systems.

OMG, let it die. Let it all die.

Didn't your mother ever tell you guys not to engage trolls?

Hey folks, we're getting post reports on this thread calling for us to lock it.

In reading through it, I see it meandering and I'm not sure it has a point--or at least one that remains valid.

What's the sense of the house? Is there anything anyone else wants to add to this? Is it still ongoing? Is it time to call it a day?

If it stays open, I remind you to remain civil. Telling someone to "fuck off" for stating their opinion is against our Code of Conduct. I'm editing out that choice snippet after I post this.

Please advise. Thanks.

I don't know if people genuinely want to know about the mormon religion and being gay or they want to find reasons to debate it?

I will say that though I am mormon and gay, I am not a practicing mormon any longer, but I do hold on to teachings I was taught and many of the principles are part of my everyday life..

Mormons refrain from drinking of alcohol and smoking....and I practice that...I don't look down on anyone that drinks and actually am dating a guy that drinks, and I love knowing that we are safe when we go out, as I am the driver and I really have no desire to drink or smoke.

There are many principles that were taught in the church, and though some might question them, one thing for sure is that the church is NOT brainwashing anyone. People leave the church all the time because of differences, in my apartment complex there are actually 7 other people who left the church for different reasons, one was they got tired of going, another was because they were offended by another couple in the church, and so forth.......

There are many celebrities that were raised mormon, who simply say it's a great church with good teachings, but that they moved on...

I myself, will never criticize the mormon church, I believe it taught me many positive things.

Like every church out there and there are many, all churches have their pros and cons, and they have all adapted to the changing times but the two core principles every church teaches is love one another and faith in a higher being....which I have both...

right or wrong any church...I don't tell others what to believe in and others shouldn't tell me what to believe in...

I am a gay mormon and happy.

There is a difference between attacking people and attacking ideas. The day we silence those who attack ideas, is the day we all lose our intelligence. Why is it bad to attack religion? It's an idea. We can attack racism, we can attack homophobia, we attack social Darwinism, but religion is sacred?

Social Darwinsism is a stupid. (no one says anything)
Religion is stupid. (omg stop him, where are the mods?? we can't have such hate on these boards. Religion is sacred ya know)

Another thing I noticed is that it's ok to attack people that we all agree are horrible, like homophones, but it's not ok to attack people the some of us think are horrible, but not all of us. There is no logic, or rationality at work here, it's just pure hypocrisy.

I would rather it be Don't attack anyone, don't attack any idea, or a freeforeall. I can't tolerate in betweens.

... are there any gay Mormons here? Ex- or practicing? What's that like?

Dated one once, Very blonde and very bright. (I'm two for two!)

Ironically his parents, who were quite conservative, didn't seem to mind when I slept over at their farm (one bed, two boys, lots of grunting)... but they absolutely freaked when I brought them a bottle of wine. Apparently alcohol was a REAL no-no, as were PDA's. No exposed skin between the nape of the neck and the knees either.

IME the whloe gay thing is generally well tolerated, just as long as you don't allude to it.

^^ BTW, the guy in the YouTube clip fudged a few critical details.^^

The human rights commission isn't concerned about "feelings", it's about weather the complainants are justified in thinking that the article might threaten their livelihood, physical well-being or be likely to insight hate.

Granted, sometimes the HRC goes too far (IMO) but on balance they generally do much more good than harm. The cited case was exceptional and did serve to illustrate the fact that the system is flawed (not perfect) and does, in some cases, gets abused and ambushed.

Maclean's has become a pretty dodgy publication IMO, I actually read the article and felt it lacked the kind of balance that basic journalistic integrity would recommend. I don't doubt a few Americas are less than thrilled by the current issue of Maclean's...Gratuitous "kick 'em when their down" garbage and nothing of any value.

The orig post:
Are There Any Gay Mormons On JUB? Nope., but there are probably a few members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ... the use of the term Mormon was started by those who opposed the teachings and is based on the fact that members use the Book of Mormon as one of the standard works.B]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mormons are not well-known for their support of gay rights. Very few religious organizations are so this isn't that unusual
They adhere to the doctrines/book of a Moronic angel interpreted by a guy - it's always a male in these crackpot religions - called Smith. Its not a moronic angel it is the Angel Moroni and it wasn't interpreted it was translated, there is a difference, by a man named Joseph Smith

And they do like lots of wives/partners. Polygamy was practiced in the early days of the church by a small percentage of members not simply as a way to get lots of wives but as a way to insure that widows and their children would be cared for since in early US history women had no right to retain their husband's estate and were often tossed out on their ears .. this happened especially to the families of early male members of the church who were killed simply for being members of the church...those men who were permitted to have the additional wives had to have enough money to be able to support them, with each wife/ family having their own private accomadations ... when Utah was seeking to gain statehood the practice was discontinued and currently the FLDS which is a fundamentalist splinter group of Latter Day Saints continues to practice it but those who do so are excommunicated from the mainstream church... as to lots of partners again not true.. the teachings of the church ask members to abstain from sexual encounters, which some might consider partners, until they are married and currently recognized marriages remain a union between two individuals so that certainly shoots a bug hole in the presumption that they like many partners

Any on JUB? Gee what do you think?

Just curious... so if you are really curious let's talk, but if you are simply here to cause contention then you certainly picked the wrong faith to try to bash since very few members consider bashing to be productive or worthy of response.

An amusing musical vid from, of all places, XTube:

Sorry. the link does not work.

greaves believes humour is always the best way to combat loony religions and their male - they are always men - leaders.

After all, Joey Ratzinger is the Pope!

But the main reason greaves posts threads about religion is because all religions promise a better, paradisical, 72 virgins, heavenly, nirvanic afterlife.

Religions deny life.

They say: don't enjoy sex, don't educate yourself, embrace suffering, follow your (male) leaders, don't eat certain foods, cut or don't cut your hair, commit suicide, kill non-believers, etc etc...

But most important of all they are saying: give us money/sexual control/political power/societal control.

Here's just one example as this thread is about Mormons:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Jeffs

But most important of all they are saying: give us money/sexual control/political power/societal control sounds more like the democrats, republicans and the federal, state and local governments rather than religious organizations

Check out the links in this post...they are ex-mormon but they talk about their faith. Great couple too.

And then there is also this guy...he talks about his religion.

Or this guy, Blake...great video:

MattieMich, your so good at finding these. Thanks for posting them. I liked this one as well:

Ex-Gay Marriages Lead to Divorce

Coming Out Story of a gay Mormom...oh my gosh....:cry:

See:

http://www.rickross.com/reference/mormon/mormon23.html

That was in 2000.

This is more recent:

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/aroundtheworld/2008/07/mormon-challenge-to-gay-marriage-ban/

All religions, to ensure their survival, are trying to "modernise"; to leave the days/daze of darkness, ignorance and intolerance behind them.

Perhaps one day we will have a gay pope/chief rabbi/mormon prophet/sikh guru/dalai lama/chief imam etc etc.

(Please, no insinuations about Joey Ratzinger being single all his life and having a penchant for dressing up - or down - in fancy dress. ;))

The LDS are trying. Very trying ;)
