In the past I would have considered my Republican. I still agree with them more often that I agree with the Democrats. However, I have come to the conclusion that neither party has my interest at heart.

Yep, total Republican here. Nope, it's not popular in the gay scene...but I've always said that life isn't a popularity contest, so I really don't give a sh-t what people think. My minor is in Pol Sci and I've been pretty vocal throughout my college career about things (Honor's classes require a lot of dialogue). Gay guys start up the Republican (and especially Bush) bashing but when I bring up 101 other political issues it usually shuts them up. Issues like defense, national security, wellfare reform, and abortion are all extremely important to me. I am very conservative as well, my first time through college was Bible college. I think gays should be able to serve in the military and am not supportive of current policies. I don't support gay marraige simply because I believe it's an institution designed by God and therefore we can't just change what it means... HOWEVER... I DO support the creation of civil unions that would have the same weight in all matters legal and otherwise. In my view, "marraige" was a vehicle for reproduction.

I have a question for the Republican bisexuals here. Why do you support a party who hates us? I mean a majority of Republicans don't believe we are equals or should marry and think we live immoral lifestyles. I am a bisexual who has a girlfriend who has the luxury of having a choice to marry her. However, a couple years ago I was with a man and I would not have that choice if we were still together. I as a bisexual feel guilty about the fact that there are two sets of rules for us as human beings. Don't even get me started on the Log Cabin Republicans.

Well again, I don't want this to become a debate. I don't think this is the place and its way too easy for things to get heated. Clinton did alot and I think Hillary would do more . I didn't mean to offend you with the party who hates remark, but I do stand by it 100% and I feel most here would agree. Huckabee wanted to isolate anyone who had HIV back in the early 90's and when asked a month ago more or less stood by his remarks. A majority of Republicans feel as he does that gays are going to hell, all because the bible tells us so. I also strongly disagree with Democrats being anti gay. In my opinion thats simply not true. What are these gay Republicans in the party trying to change? Are they against gay marriage? Why are there so many closeted gay republicans? If we had equal rights for all perhaps society would be more accepting of us. Its these self loathing gay conservatives who talk out of one side of their mouth about how immoral gays are and then go to bathroom stalls or internet chat rooms and live a double life in shame who are teaching people our lifestyle is wrong.

I believe "We The People" mean all of us. Not just "We the Heterosexual People". Republicans believe marriage is between a man and a woman. This is why I never post in the political forum. I think it really should have been directed there in the first place. I am glad we have managed to be civil and not really turn this into a heated political firestorm.
You may feel my Bush comment is divisive, but I feel its 100% accurate. He had a chance to unite this country on 911 and did not do so. Prior to 911, even during the Clinton years, this country was not as polarized as it is now. We have managed to show the world we are arrogant and bully's. The war in Iraq has not helped. It only divided us more. So, I have to say Bush is responsible for alot of this bitterness.
I'm not lumping all republicans into the same basket, but the responses have been from those who claim to be 'proud Republicans.' Perhaps they are not. Maybe they are Democrats who are very conservative. How am I lumping all as the same? Do you all not believe in the principals of the Republican party? If you don't believe in the same core values, then perhaps your in the wrong party. Perhaps your independents who lean to the right. With all due respect the log cabin republicans are a joke to the gay community. What have they accomplished? What republican is openly fighting for gay rights? You say Democrats are just as anti gay but I see Hillary Clinton proudly marching in Gay pride parades recognizing gays and fighting for their rights. I see Democrats fighting for hate crime bills and protection against gays. We have openly gay Democrats serving and fighting for gay rights. Gavin Newsom, the straight Democratic Mayor of San Francisco allowed gays to marry briefly. Thats just one example of how Democrats are fighting for gay rights everywhere. I'm prouder than proud to be in such a party.That story I shared about the lesbian couple. How would a typical Republican respond to that story? What are the log cabin republicans doing to help gays?

And for some, there are more critical interests than sexual politics- - for me, I'm concerned about education (I'm for vouchers and the eventual dismantling of the Department of Education), Government Spending (Both parties are in my doghouse for this), National Security (one party is the party of fear, the other party is "What Terror?"), and Immigration (my parents did NOT wait in line in Kingston for some jackass to skip them w/o following the rules). . .the Dems (as a whole) don't stand with me on this. . .so, while locally, I'll vote Democratic -- we have one nice state rep that's a Conservative Dem -- nationally, my vote is always up for grabs to some asshole every four years.

It's interesting that some keep bringing up "Republicans hate". No, some people, who consider themselves Republicans do hate gays. Some people who consider themselves Democrats also hate gays. I can think of some red neck, blue collor bars filled with steadfast union democrates that you wouldn't want to put a paw in on a Friday night, after payday, if you were openly gay.
I think that marriage is an institution that should be left to the straight or bi folks. Just give the gays a civil union, as stated above, with all the rights of a straight couple. It's really not that complicated. Just hang in there, it will come. Clinton did very little for gays, except give the armed forces "don't ask". Unfortunately, more gays have been booted since that program, then were before. mmmmm... On the other hand, the Republicans, (read Bush and the Republian Congress, have outspent Clinton's efforts 10 to 1 on assisting in Africa to combat AIDS. And, according to what I heard this past week, there is actually some progress, finally.
Personal choice is important to me. Health care? Mandatory? And, as Hillary has said, "There have to be consequences for those who don't enroll." It has been suggested that wages could be garnished, or a very high fine applied if you showed up at a hospital and didn't have coverage. (At least Obama says each should have the choice to enroll, and makes no threats. Thus, the opposition's claim that his plan leaves 15 million out of the plan. Yeah, it's call CHOICE.)
Taxes. Imagine a "significant" tax increase on the country. Man, you think we have an economic slowdown now? A "significant" tax increase, as the Democrats are planning, would put throttle down the economy so fast you'd think 1930 was repeating itself. We're a spend, spend, spend economy, and that makes the economy strong. (I'm personally not of that ilk, by most are..... so, I'm not a big contributor to the economic cycle.)
Armed forces? Democrats have little regard for them. Again, look what Clinton did. He reduced the armed forces dramatically. I don't have the percentage, so don't hold me to this. It may have been more. But I think it was somewhere around a 30% reduction in forces, that had to be rebuilt.
CIA? Democrats do everything they can to throttle their work. mmmm... look at the hold-up in the House of the bill that the Senate passed a couple of weeks ago. No more wiretaps. Nancy wouldn't let it come to a vote. They needed their week's vacation.
So, maybe I'm a Republican. I think for myself.
