Are there any other bisexual Republicans out there?

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

Geez, folks, I sound like a solid Republican. McCain? I don't know. I'll vote for him, I suppose, rather than skip it, and give the other candidate an advantage by default, but I think it's going to be done with a clothes pin on my nose. He just has NO boarder sense, which is a surprise, since he's from a boarder state. But, he is a man of his word, a man of honor. Forget the war hero crap. Hell, he got shot down. He couldn't get out of the way of a weapon flying through the sky. He's a hero, in that he refused to leave his buddies when given a chance, since his father was an admiral, but that's much more a statement about his being a man of honor and good character than that he's a war hero. Just my opinion. War Hero's getting overworked, in my mind.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

How soon we forget. Most Republicans don't approve of the gay lifestyle. Just look at how they vote against gay issues. Sure, there are Democrats who don't favor gays as well. But they are in the minority. Can you give me a list of Republicans who have fought for gay rights? No one is answering my question. How can you support a party who discriminates against gays? Your party does not have your interest at heart. Civil unions IMO are not enough. Why are gays not good enough to have the same rights as heterosexuals?

The Clinton-Gore Administration

A Record of Progress for Gay and Lesbian Americans

“Discrimination or violence because of race or religion, ancestry or gender, disability or sexual orientation, is wrong, and it ought to be illegal. Therefore, I ask Congress to make the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Hate Crimes Prevention Act the law of the land.”
-- President Clinton, State of the Union Address to Congress, January 19, 1999

“It is time for all Americans to recognize that the issues that face gays and lesbians in this country are not narrow, special interests -- they are matters of basic human and civil rights.”
--Vice President Gore, September 15, 1997

Working for Basic Fairness and Against Hate

Fighting For Hate Crimes Legislation. In 1997, the President announced his sponsorship of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act during the historic White House Conference on Hate Crimes. This crucial legislation would strengthen and expand the ability of the Justice Department to prosecute hate crimes by removing needless jurisdictional requirements for existing crimes. And for the first time in history, it would give Federal prosecutors the power to prosecute hate crimes committed because of the victim's sexual orientation, gender or disability.

On April 6, 1999, the President urged Congress to pass this pending legislation and announced a new public-private partnership to focus attention on issues of hate, tolerance and diversity in schools. President Clinton also called on the Departments of Justice and Education to include hate crimes in their annual report card on school safety and to report on hate crimes and bias on college campuses. The President and Vice President continue to push Congress to pass this important legislation and to speak out against hate. As the Vice President said on September 19, 1998: “If we allow even a small number of Americans to harbor and act upon malice and intolerance, we all feel the bitter sting of injustice. Let us send a clear message to those would commit crimes of hate: it is wrong, it is illegal, and we will punish you with the full force of our laws... Crimes of hate against all people -- including gays and lesbians -- should carry a punishment that is swift and severe.”

Additionally, as part of the 1994 Crime Act, President Clinton signed the Hate Crimes Sentencing Enhancement Act, providing for longer sentences where the offense is determined to be a hate crime based on sexual orientation.

Appointed the First –Ever Openly Gay United States Ambassador. On October 6, 1997 and again on January 6, 1999, the President nominated James C. Hormel to be U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg. Although Mr. Hormel’s qualifications were never in question, and it was generally agreed that his nomination would have easily won a floor vote, a handful of conservative Senators blocked the nomination. Because of this, on June 4, 1999, President Clinton announced the recess appointment of James Hormel. This appointment makes Mr. Hormel the first-ever openly gay United States Ambassador.

Ending Discrimination Against Gays and Lesbians in the Federal Civilian Workforce. President Clinton issued an Executive Order prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in the Federal civilian workforce. This makes the Federal Government the largest employer in the world (1.8 million civilian employees) with a non-discrimination policy covering sexual orientation. The Federal government recently released a guidebook on this non-discrimination policy for its employees and personnel managers. And the President, working with a bipartisan coalition in the House of Representatives, successfully defeated an attempt to overturn the policy. The President also issued an Executive Order mandating that security clearances no longer be denied based on sexual orientation.

Endorsing Legislation that Outlaws Discrimination in the Workplace. President Clinton said in his 1999 State of the Union Address, “I ask Congress to make the Employment Non-Discrimination Act… the law of the land.” President Clinton and Vice President Gore endorsed and continue to fight for passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, a bill outlawing discrimination in hiring, firing and promotions based on sexual orientation. This makes them the first U.S. President and Vice President ever to back civil rights legislation for gays and lesbians. The legislation would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace, extending basic employment protections to gay and lesbian Americans.

Issuing the First-Ever Gay and Lesbian Pride Month Proclamation. In June 1999, President Clinton issued the first Gay and Lesbian Pride Month proclamation. This historic action marked, as the President said, “the Stonewall Uprising and the birth of the modern gay and lesbian civil rights movement.” In the proclamation, President Clinton encouraged “all Americans to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that celebrate our diversity, and to remember throughout the year the gay and lesbian Americans whose many and varied contributions have enriched our national life.”

Standing Up for Basic Fairness, Protecting Adoption Rights. President Clinton blocked Republican efforts to pass legislation prohibiting unmarried couples from jointly adopting children in the District of Columbia and legislation which would have denied certain Federal funds to localities with domestic partnership laws.

Working to Stop Discrimination Against People With AIDS. President Clinton supports the Supreme Court’s decision in Bragdon v. Abbott, which reinforces the protections offered by the landmark Americans With Disabilities Act for Americans living with HIV and AIDS. The President directed the Justice Department and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to vigorously prosecute those who discriminate against people with AIDS, leading to actions against health care providers and facilities that violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Opposing Anti-Gay Ballot Initiatives. President Clinton strongly opposed anti-gay ballot initiatives in Colorado and Oregon. His two nominees to the Supreme Court voted to overturn Colorado’s Amendment 2, declaring such initiatives unconstitutional violations of the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution.

Fighting Discrimination Against People with AIDS in the Military. President Clinton successfully fought for the repeal of the Dornan amendment, which required the expulsion of all HIV-positive military service members regardless of their ability to do their jobs. Prior to its repeal, President Clinton took the highly unusual step of unilaterally declaring the law unconstitutional and instructing the Department of Justice not to defend it in court, becoming the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to take such action.

Helping Those Fleeing Persecution Because of Their Sexual Orientation. President Clinton’s Administration is the first ever to grant asylum for gays and lesbians facing persecution in other countries. The President sent gay human rights activist Keith Boykin to Zimbabwe as part of an official United States delegation. Mr. Boykin investigated human rights abuses of gays and lesbians there.

Banning Insurance Discrimination. President Clinton fought for and signed the Kennedy-Kassebaum Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which bans insurance discrimination against people with pre-existing medical conditions including HIV/AIDS. In addition, President Clinton issued a directive that ensures that all providers of Federal health insurance abide by non-discrimination rules including sexual orientation.

Fighting Harassment of Students Based on Sexual Orientation. President Clinton’s Department of Education has issued landmark guidance that explains Federal standards against sexual harassment and that prohibits sexual harassment of all students regardless of their sexual orientation. At the White House Conference on School Violence last October, the President ordered the Education Department's civil rights office to step up its enforcement of anti- discrimination and harassment rules. That effort has resulted in, among other things, a groundbreaking guide for use by school administrators and teachers titled: Protecting Students from Harassment and Hate Crime. The Guide provides practical guidance for developing a comprehensive approach to protecting all students, including gays and lesbians, from harassment and violence.

"Go back through the posts. Nothing started until you said something. This was a simple question by the parent. Yeah, us evil Republicans...but it was you, a Democrat, that started the bigotry.

You've chosen your side, Man. Hey, when the coming civil war starts we know where you'll be. I'll be somewhere crying for my country because people can't put the cool aid down and share a beer.

Frankly, shit like this disgusts me. We should all be fucking ashamed of ourselves."

Nothing started til I said something? I'm the only liberal on JUB it looks like. So I should just shut up, is that what your saying? My opinion doesn't mean anything? I think your way of thinking is why we need serious change. It shouldn't be a 'Us vs. Them" mentality. We're all on the same side. We may disagree, but we all love our country and we're all Americans. Sorry if I upset you but I asked an honest question. The GOP looks down on the gay lifestyle and I'm curious why so many support such a party. Sorry if I insulted you somehow. It was not my intentions and I appologize. Still, I stand strongly by my comments and views.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

I'm not following what your saying. I seem to have made you really angry because your becoming very defensive. I'm asking questions which no one can answer. No, I'm not high by the way.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

:-)REPUBLICAN Here. Going with McCain in the primary. May or May Not Vote for Clinton, but not Obama(He is to inexperenced to run the country)Was Never a FAN of President GW Bushy or his Father. Was a Fan of Reagan,Ford and Nixon. But in hindsight Nixon has lost favor with me.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

Don't you all wish you lived here in Canada!

TRUE! but... it's so cold, I don't think I'd survive!

and regarding the question, nah. I don't think the republican party has any of our interest in mind when it comes to important issues. and I'm probably the least religious person you can find, so that has to do with it as well hahaha.

and "disagreeing with the gay lifestyle" makes no sense at all... just a politically correct cop out for bigotry.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

some people value their tax cuts more than their dignity. In my experience most Republicans can be very nice about the whole issue on a personal level, even the ones who are otherwise out there actively shoving a knife into our collective back with legal challenges and at the polling booth. When it comes to Republicans there's a lot of truth to a line I remember from Queer as Folk that went something like, "if they don't despise you to your face, they despise you behind your back."

And as for Log Cabin Repubs and others of their sorry ilk, they have made a choice to trade honesty and equality for material gain or some twisted economic libertarian dream of no taxes and little or no government. And then I think that there are some who actually get off on being a barely tolerated minority. They'd rather be inmate trustees at a prison camp than live as free men and women.

The so called recent Republican Presidents are not think or acting as True Conservative Republicans,But as Popularist Religious and Corperate Lackys.

Plus,THE Current President has done more to harm the Party and the Nation as a Whole than the Last 18 Republican Presidents that when before him.
Believe it or not G.W. Bush has done more harm Than NIXON,HOOVER,and HARDING combined.](*,)

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

I agree. Bush has more or less killed the image and perception of the party. Way to go George! What you described is not a Republican in my opinion but a independent. There is a difference. My parents who use to be moderate Republicans are now independents because they are disgusted at what the GOP has become. So, you can be a proud member of the party or be a member of a party who does not have gays best interest at heart. I know a guy who calls the Log Cabin Republicans 'Jews for Jesus'. I find it very fitting. You point out the damage Bush has done. I couldn't agree with you more. So, by being part of his party tells me that you believe his views and way of government.

There are plenty of people who are Republican and socially liberal. They agree with the economic views or foreign policy views.

I imagine there are few Dems who agree 100% with their party's platform and same for GOPs.

Having said that--anyone who does not support gay marriage is not a friend of mine. We can be acquaintances or relatives. But not friends.

My friends believe that I am equal to them. I would never be a member of a group or party who did not believe I was equal. This includes Gay Republicans. By the way, William F. Buckley died today. A hero to many Republicans. He said in an op-ed in the New York Times in 1986:

"Everyone detected with AIDS should be tattooed in the upper forearm to prevent common needle users, and on the buttocks. Many Republicans today I bet would feel the same way. I have countless examples of similar quotes by Republicans dating back way before Bush so this is not a new idea the GOP has adopted. It goes WAY back! So Bush is not to be blamed entirely. Reagan never even mentioned the word AIDS during his 8 years in office.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

I don't think anyone should consider themselves part of either party. The demoncats and republicrats often do the same thing while talking out of both sides of their mouth. Personally, I am an extreme conservative thomas jefferson style and support Ron Paul. I don't even think the government should be involved in legislating morality such and stay out of the marriage business. Marriage should stay a religious institution that way orthodox jews can have their marriage at their church and the unitarians and episcopalians can have their gay marriages also. Im mostly conservative though because I want economic freedom, right to own a gun, and little regulation. I've never seen the government do anything right. The same people that can't run the DMV or fix a pothole in the road should not be in charge of your healthcare. The governement created the problem of expensive healthcare with too much regulation, hmo's, frivolous lawsuits, and welfare for illegals.

Can someone explain to me why so many gay folks are against guns?
The only thing protecting a gay guy from a dozen rednecks that want to beat him down with bats is a gun. Guns protect the minority from the oppressive majority!
That being said I think people who want economic freedom without the bible beating should turn to the libertarian party.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

Libertarian here. I am not a liberal. Oh no sir. So you can call me a Republican.

I believe in Adam Smith and not Karl Marx.

Yeah, Since when did it become okay for presidential candidates to steal ideas from Marx's playbook? Huckabee even does it too by trying to start class warfare.

Please folks People in britain have had to wait in line for dental work going on months, years. Socialized medicine does not work

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

I consider myself republican for the most part but I like a lot of liberal ideals. Not sure who to vote for this year....

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

jav1231, The PM was nice but I thought it best just to let it go and not respond. You and disagree and I feel we should just leave it at that. You wrote in a post directed at me:

"Go back through the posts. Nothing started until you said something. This was a simple question by the parent. Yeah, us evil Republicans...but it was you, a Democrat, that started the bigotry.

I have to admit it, I was a little bitter after that. I could not believe what I wrote could send someone over the edge like that. You must have an awful lot of anger inside to be set off so easily. You then wrote:

"And no you didn't ask an honest question. You got what you hoped you would. Unfortunately, I played right into it.
You can't say something so divisive and offensive and then say, "Oh, I'm sorry if I upset you!" Not that there's anything wrong with offending someone. But don't be so coy as to think saying your sorry is supposed to absolve you of the consequences of your words. I am insulted, disgusted, and disappointed."

Again, that remark really pissed me off. I asked an honest question which so far no "proud Republican" can seem to answer. You accuse me of being sneaky by asking a simple question. So then, you wrote this:

"You know, it doesn't matter. You point is illogical. You make the assumption that the Republican Party has as a policy an inherent hatred of gays then proceed to craft a question based on that premise. It's like asking someone, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" You're right, it can't be answered because the whatever the answer it will put the respondent in a defensive position and is purposely designed to do so.

You're the "us" and I'm the "them." Apparently, we're not allowed to get along unless I defect."

Are you seriously asking me with a straight face why I did not respond? If this is your idea of a gesture of goodwill I'd hate to hear your definition of compassionate conservatism
.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

I am well aware there other problems in the world but gay people need to look to their leaders for change. I don't think gay issues are less important. Tell that to the lady who lost her lover and was not allowed to see her before she died because of the laws of Red state Florida. I posted a link to the story a few posts back. Tell her that gay issues are not important. This is the general attitude Republicans have towards gay people. We need to take a number, get in back of the line, and shut the fuck up because we are 2nd class citizens. At least the Democrats are addressing those issues and have acknowledged we do exist.

I disagree with some things in the Democratic party, but I still believe in their values and feel their way is much better for our country and for me. Just look at what 8 years of Republicans have done not to just this country but how the world views us. On 911 the world was with us and felt the pain we were going through. If another terrorist attack happened today the world would feel we deserved it. Again, thank Bush and his cartel for that! We are arrogant war mongers.

What exactly has the Log Cabin Republicans done for gay people? Can you answer me that? How have they helped gay people? I just went to their site and other than them ranting about how change is made within, I see no list of accomplishments. You would think such a party would highlight all they have done for gay people. I could not find one thing they have done. Has any Republican politician done anything to help better the lives of gay people? I have determined the Log Cabin Republicans are nothing more than a little play club, kind of like the 'He man women hater's club' from the little rascals. A club for gay conservatives to meet up, hook up in a bathroom stall, and then go to church afterwards so they won't burn in hell.. They are useless and a joke to a majority in the gay community. Ah, but they are working from within and changing the perception of gay people. Exactly how are they doing this? I mean, what laws have they changed? The link to some stories I have read shows some Log Cabin Republicans are against gay marriage. So, how exactly are they helping us? Are they teaching kids about safe sex and HIV prevention? Do Log Cabin Republicans give out free condoms? Do they educate about safe sex and gay history? What purpose does this group serve to the gay community? I know they have been to the GOP convention but do other Republican Politicians acknowledge them and their efforts? If so, who? Which Republicans? Rick Santorum? Larry Craig? Trent Lott? Jonah Goldberg? Focus on the Family? Mike Huckabee? Who exactly in the Republican party is applauding the efforts of the Log Cabin Republicans? Do tell.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

I've been curious about this for a long time. All the gay/bi people I know are either Democrat, Independent or just don't care.

I'm Republican, but I'm a disenfranchised Gay Republican. I'm not happy with what has happened to our Party and I don't see things changing anytime soon. I'll likely be Independent by the Next Election.

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

jav1231, I agree. I to am disgusted at how divided this country is. I don't think I know new leadership is a must. I said it before and I'll say it again. This topic should have been posted in the political forum and not the bisexual forum. Its difficult to talk/debate politics in a no flame zone. Things can get heated so easily. You can only walk on egg shells for so long. Politics and religion are two subjects I try not to bring up unless I know I agree with someone on the issue. Thanks for clearing that up. You didn't have to do that and in my opinion it shows me you have some class. Thanks for that! ..|

Re: Are there any other bisexual Republicans out t

Actually,This started out as a simple question/poll thread. That was until a few people that shall remain nameless start sprotting oppossing political views about this and that.

No pointing fingers at each other, let's just be adult about it and drop it. shall we,Gentlemen?
