Why the poor is still poor?
Maybe because they are not educated enough to look after themselves in terms basic smart life skills ... and so on.
We encourage people to get a high school diploma here in the States, for those who just ride the system and do the minimum they get this diploma which in effect says "I was there". I may as well wear a t shirt that says "I was at Wally World".
This diploma does not mean that they will know anything beyond basic math and how to read, perhaps on a 5th grade level.
Of course some excel, they go on to college and become professionals or businessmen, but far to many, dare I say the majority probably can not balance a check book.
I worked with a young man who was nearing the end of his 4 years of obtaining a degree, he was going into graphic design as I recall. He was shipping something and asked me how to spell "read", I asked him which read he wanted, he said as in I will read the book, he didn't know if it was reed or read.
My spelling sucks, but it doesn't suck like that. My point is that though that I am sure that this young man will make a modest living. He was not one to apply himself, he had no intellectual curiosity. Both he and another guy who was in his 50's had told me that they could not read a tape measure. I think that I learned how to read a ruler back in perhaps the 4th grade.
How could one NOT know how to do it?
How can you cook anything without knowing how fractions work? How can one not have any interest in knowing how they work?
I was at a hospital the other day, a very nice young lady was taking information, suddenly she said " my hbo is down", she asked those near her if their hbo was working, all said that theirs was down as well, then she said "oh, it's back" and finished filling out the required fields, I asked what hbo stood for (this was not a test of her knowledge, the term hbo provoked my mind) she said that she didn't know, that she had worked there 4 years and no one ever found out or asked, that's just "what we call "it".
For reasons that are above my pay grade to explain we have a class of people with no curiosity, they lack in many areas of knowledge and take no shame in it, they go though the motions of life and don't care to know.
This is one reason why we have an underclass, people who just have no drive.
