On the Prowl
I posted this on Hot Topics. I got lots of views but no responses. I thought maybe I'd have better luck here
In the western world the tide is changing and I think we are entering a time of new sexual frontiers.
Among people in their 20s and 30s I have noticed that guys are much more open to expanding their emotional and sexual boundaries than they were just a few years ago. This may be because gay sex is much less stigmatized than in the past and people are much less frightened to give it a try. Also conventional religion has having less of hold - and people are questioning the reasoning behind the taboos it imposes.
I can site two examples among many.
A few years ago I was in the military and working as a District Commander in a peace keeping in the Nuba mountains of Sudan. It was an all male, international mission. There were special forces and military guys from 17 different countries participating in the mission. We were attempting stop a systematic genocide of the indigenous population in the region.
I noticed a number of the guys started to maintain close relationships and would often sleep in each others rooms even though they all had rooms or trailers of their own. I thought that was interesting but of course I didn't know for sure if they were involved sexually or not. I developed a close friendship with a helicopter pilot from the Czech Republic. We'd play cards and talk for hours . He was married and had two daughters. One day told me he had hurt his back and asked if I'd mind massaging it for him. One thing led to another - we had sex and became lovers. He told me that gay sex even among guys who identified as straight was common in his country and accepted. He said it was because most people were not brought with religious taboos often prevalent in other countries. I asked if he knew if other guys were having sex in the mission and he told me that several were and that he had even been to a couple of sex parties with a number of guys participating. That included two macho American Special Forces guys who were really into it. The whole experience was eye opening. I had never experienced anything like it before during my years in the service.
The second example I have concerns my own younger brother who is 22 years old and a first year medical student a famous East Coast Ivy League university. He identifies as straight but he is very open with me about often having sex with his buddies as well as his girl friends. He says it's fun and he really enjoys sex with both sexes yet he knows he'll end up with a woman and start a family in the end. He denies being bisexual - rather he says he's a straight guy who likes having sex with guys sometimes. He has no guilt about it and thinks that it's normal and good as do many of his friends.
What do guys think. Is the sexual landscape really changing? Do you have examples of your own to share?
I'll be anxious to hear your thoughts.
