  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Are you an adventurous eater?

Yes, Haggis, tongue etc, wouldn't touch sushi or most fish.

I meant to add that I am adventuresome in dining, but that I find heavily spiced foods can be great to the palate but easily cause diarrhea or burning or other digestive issues.

Here in New Mexico, one is practically asked to become a chile-head which is a cultural pride thing. Fine, I picked up on that from the beginning, but even when I order it on the side and use it sparingly, it can still create burning as it exits, which is not something that anyone seeks in a cuisine. And I thought it might be just that I was not raised with it, but no -- I have heard from senior Hispanic friends here that they used to pile it on and now cannot handle it. I still eat it, but almost never the red.

When I eat Indian or Thai, and there is curry, I always get diarrhea from it. I like curry, but it's not worth it.

On the other hand, I never seem to get heartburn. Cold comfort.

Now I eat a lot of fish but totally refuse to even try sushi. I don't consider it being picky, it is just an aversion to cold fish and rice.

I'm not picky but I'm not adventurous. I like most of the foods and I know what I do not like, whichever way it's cooked, so I usually go with the classic recipes.

I think Vannie is Cabbagetarian.

I will try almost anything.

I love to try new food, if I eat out (which is not often these days) I look for something that I have not tried before. I love sea food, can't say how much. We have a chain near our home called "Joe's crab shack", it's like heaven on earth!

We went there for my 60th birthday party, I bought a T-shirt that says: I got crabs at Joe's.

I eat basically everything with pleasure — unless it's carnivorous, or omnivorous.

(Well, many fishes, and Prosciutto di Parma etc. are exceptions I guess ;)).

But of course under certain circumstances, if I'm visitant and my hosts insist to serve e.g. swan or eagle, or hedgehog (whether urchin, or porcupine), or a bird-eating spider (tarantula etc.), I guess I would bring myself to eat it.

I'm more or less a foodie, so yeah. The most interesting thing I've eaten is a cat, and I would like to eat other animals which aren't considered "normal" to eat.

When I was in Korea I ate dog. I didn't know it was dog and I hate to say this , but it didn't taste bad...needless to say when I came back home I felt very guilty. I would never have eaten it if I knew it was dog.!oops!

I won't eat a bug, but I'll try most anything, even things I know I don't like just to be sure. One of those things is tripe, I don;t care for the texture, the appearance or the flavor, Rick loves it and orders it whenever he sees it on the menu, I try, don't like. I usually order things in restaurants that I don't make for myself...

i cut a hole in a crenshaw......

Only if I was on Naked and Afraid and I had to survive..then I would eat anything....

I will usually try most things at least to see if I like them or not...but texture is sometimes a barrier for me....like when I eat at the Ethiopian Restaurant...I definitely want to try everything...but too much mush ...the texture gets to me and I start to belch involuntarily.....

I am not too adventurous as an eater but I will sometimes try something new. It depends what it looks like and if what it sounds like is repelling to me. I consider it adventurous that I have tried and liked Chinese, Indian, and some but not all, Mexican food. I tried lobster and didn't like it the first time but did like it the second time. I did not like calamari. I am picky about what fish I will eat and won't eat too many things from the water and will not eat bugs.

P.S. When my grandmother cooked duck's blood soup, I forget what it was called in Polish, and I found out what it was, I wouldn't eat it.

I also tried yogurt with fruit and liked it. Although this sounds like a normal food, as a child I was not served yogurt and tried it as an adult. To me this is adventurous.

I keep thinking of more. I was offered pigs feet and told about cows brains as a youngster and wouldn't try those either. I remembered that ducks blood soup was called czarnina which was pronounced charnina. I know that I would not try escargot and depending on my mood I might, but probably would not, try caviar.

The way I look at it, once you've swallowed jizz, you really shouldn't be afraid of eating anything.
