October 1 is the beginning of the flu shot season down here in FL. Not sure if it is also going on nationwide.

On the advice of my doctor, since I often work with kids, I'll be getting a flu shot. Can't hurt (no pun intended)!

How about you guys?

I'm getting one. I work in a pharmacy and I do not want to get the flu!

Absolutely not!

Ok so were going to make you sick..... so you won't get sick.....

I never take any drugs unless it is a life or death situation.

God gave us everything we need in nature! Fruits, veggies, and herbs!

Just say no to drugs and chemicals! All natural and organic is the way to go!

.....now where did I put that McDonald's cheese burger! :rotflmao:

Flu shots work by giving you the virus in an amount that your immune system should be able to destroy and assimilate. That way, your body can fight it when you really encounter influenza. Some people get sick because the inoculation doesn't get fought and destroyed, at which case, it just means that they're getting through it earlier and won't have to worry about it later when it's going around.

It's not a 'drug' and it's not a 'chemical'. Besides, drugs are just isolated chemicals that are mostly found in plants anyway. The only difference is that drugs are a controlled and appropriate dosage whereas the plants the compounds are found in have an unknown and unspecified amount.

You can either be preventative or responsive, and I'd rather be preventative with the flu.

I'd probably get one this year. I didn't last year and it hit me pretty hard.

I'll be getting one in November as I have done for the last few years. It's not only about me not getting sick but also not passing it on to others who may be weaker, like for instance, my parents.

I should have!
The WHO tracks different flu strains and makes guesses as to which ones will arrive in your region of the world during the winter season. Consequently a vaccine is produced that will be effective against a palette of different flu virus, but not against others which may nevertheless invade your system.

Strep throat (assuming you're referring to your thread about it) is bacterial and not viral, so you're not even in the same ballpark. Hope the antibacterials you're taking start to bring down the infection soon .

I always get one, the one year I didn't, I paid for that.

The last flu shot I had was 10 years ago. The last time I had the flu was 10 years ago. So no, I'm going to be skipping the flu shot yet again this year.

Last year was the first flu shot I have had since I can remember. I also haven't had the flu since at least 15 years prior. A few months after the shot, I got a nasty flu which evolved into a sinus infection. It took me 2 months to completely get over it. So fuck no, I'm not getting another flu shot. I thought they were supposed to prevent the flu rather than cause them.:grrr:

Working in the Health area we are given free Flu shots each year (also everyone over 65yrs is entitled to free shots each year in Australia).
Had the shot about 4 months ago - however, we had some other form of influenza around for awhile which seemed to affect nearly everyone I knew.
Suppose that strain wasn't as bad as the one we were innoculated for?

I say go for it if it's going to affect your income etc!

"According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD...world's leading immunogeneticist...if an individual has had five consecutive flu shots between 1970 and 1980...CHANCES OF GETTING ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE IS TEN TIMES HIGHER than if they had one, two or no shots....due to the mercury and aluminum....buildup in the brain" ; Fudenberg, in press, J. of Clinical Investigation

"Avoiding flu shots is a no-brainer. Who would want ethylene glycol, phenol, formaldehyde, aluminum and mercury..many physicians believe flu vaccines are largely responsible for the increase in Alzheimer's" Joseph Mercola, D.O.

The real problem is that many people, in fact most people in the U.S. now, have weakened and impaired immune systems that are unable to function as they're designed to because of our horrendous dietary habits.

Organic, natural foods... Fruits, vegies, and herbs!!!

God made everything we would ever need, I don't take anything made in a lab.... I haven't been truly sick in almost 15 years.

I am getting one this year for the first time ever. I know it may come as a shock but the only reason Im getting one is that I will be studying abroad in Australia next semester and its more of a safety precaution.

I have to because I am in the Health field. But I would get one anyway.

I have no plans to

My doctor and I have discussed it and he doesn't feel it's necessary for me. I'll just continue to eat a healthy diet, exercise and try to get more sleep to stay healthy this winter

The flu shot doesn't actually contain a live version of the virus. (At least that's what the pamphlet they give out every years says).

Sorry, you're right. But regardless, the sample contains the genetic material, which is enough to be assimilated and possibly cause an infection.
