Egyptian, and for that matter other Arabs' sympathies for the Palestinians are hypothetical at best: they serve as a convenient at which their own discontents can target their rage.

Few appreciate that 20-30% of Palestinians are Christians, higher than any other Arab ethnic sub-group. Perhaps if Pat Roberston and other "Christian Zionists" were aware of this their enthusiasm for Israel would cool.

just to take a stab, if Egypt puts in place a government that's more friendly with Iran than America, I'd expect the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip to become a lot looser and see a lot more Iranian arms flow into Hamas hands (and it doesn't take long to find dozens of news articles about how happy the Iranian government is about the uprising, despite suppressing their own internal revolution in favor of totalitarian government)

All I see is that the dynamic will change, but expediency will require Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the other countries in the region to come to terms with the change.

It will lead to interesting times as they all continue to fight a 4000 year old battle with one another.
