I think the DVR is a great invention but when the hell do they plan on upgrading the software so it can hold unlimited recorded shows? Or at least Upgrade the Shit to hold a Maximum of 5,000 recorded shows...

I record stuff and can't watch it till Months or a year later. I find myself deleting un-watched shows to make room for shows I plan on recording & viewing due to lack of storage space. And what about the shows/specials/movies that I want to KEEP in my playlist forever? There should be a separate storage file so I can keep my "Favorites" forever..

I shouldnt have to buy a DVD/VCR Combo and connect it to my DVR. It's time for a Brilliant "Mind" to create a DVR-Converter Box that can Play DVD's & Record and Keep an unlimited amount of shows/movies...

Can I get an Amen from Somebody?

99% of TV today is garbage. The "Reality TV" movement is here to stay for at least 30 more years...There's a hand-ful of shows that I watch simply because it's a "No Win" situation...Ain't nothing else on...

The Premium Movie channels ain't no better...I have every Movie Channel there is and all of them REPEAT the same Damn movies over & over & Over...I've seen "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship" so many times I know when the characters are gonna "blink"...

There are Pluses...I like recording the Music Specials & late Night talk shows and watch them whenever I want to. I like "Pausing" LIVE TV & rewinding whenever I want...And I do like watching recorded shows/movies in Great-picture quality VS the so-so quality you'd get from a standard VCR player..

I actually like netflix. If you're a connoisseur of old school grindhouse stuff, netflix is awesome

I have DirecTV with a DVR........only use it to record a handful of shows.......most of the time I'm using Netflix through my Bluray player

I don't have DVR. I have a DVD recorder to make DVDs of anything I want to keep.

As for time shifting stuff you want to watch later. I worked a TV and inherited several VCRs. When they break, Ill get a DVR. Plus, I don't like the DVR my cable provider (Charter) uses.

I have DVR but I practically never use. There is just not enough good television that deserves to be recorded. It is also very rare for there to be more than one good show on at the same time. I have DVR only because it didn't cost extra when I renewed my contract with Time Warner. I know people who record everything, but they hardly ever watch anything they record.

I think the resources it would take to give everyone 'unlimited' storage space would be astronomical, and pretty unfeasible... but I do agree that they could offer MORE space then what they do.

I will confess I sometimes get a little 'copy' happy, and record things I think I MIGHT be interested in watching, only to delete them before watching to make space for stuff I want more.

I have Time Warner and it's been the best DVR so far. I'm going to be moving back to redneck land, and I'm going to have to use my old Tivo, unless Mediacom starts offering a DVR there. Hell they aren't even technically offering HD there yet because their signal is so bad. My Aunt gets the free Starz package and you can only watch it during the day, after 7 or 8pm everything on Starz goes pixilated and the sound is fucked. I've had guys here twice a week for about 3 months. They finally just decided I my aunt had been with them years longer then her neighbor so they changed the signal so my Aunt could get her internet working, which completely shut off the neighbor. But still hasn't fixed the Starz or HD problem.

I have Directv with two DVR's and love it. I record things from my Ipad app all the time. I like the DVR because I can watch things when I want to, not when they are on. I think Directvs on demand sucks, I use Netflix for that stuff...Directvs customer service i excellent, although their offshoot installlers SUCK the ass of mankind. I think their name is Halstead or something like that.

I have DirecTV and a HTPC. It does EVERYTHING! Dumped the tivo and everything else. Never looked back.

Dude, seriously... take it from an old guy... life is finite. If you're sick of TV, find something more stimulating to do. Go for a walk, read a book, learn how to bake a cake...

Dunno about the ones they sell overseas, but the ones you get here are permanently under 'control' of the TV/satellite company. The stuff you record and store is only still playable if your subscription covers the channels those shows came from and is currently paid up. Its not like a VCR or DVD-R where you forever own what you record.

Time Warner is KING in my area. I don't think Direct TV & Dish Network will ever give them a run-for-their-money.. I Have Direct TV but I use Time Warner High Speed service. The High Speed is wonderful but I've heard too many complaints about their cable-technical support to ever switch from Satellite to Cable... I heard it takes a while to get a Tech out when your service is out and one of my friends had an installer turn his backyard into a Web of cable wires...

Direct TV only has the movies on Demand feature. I'd trade that for HBO on Demand...

I'm considering buying a Netflix unit and getting the service but it'll SUCK if I'm watching a flick and the server goes down...That is Ghetto to me....I'll never throw away my Blockbuster card...

I've been with TWC for close to 2 years now, best cable company I've ever had! I've only had to have the tech come out once after my initial install and it was when my hard drive on my box/dvr died. He admitted I had newer equipment then what he had in the truck called the local office to see if they had the same as mine, and even offered to go get it for me but I told him that was fine I would go swap them out so he could get going onto another customer. My internet has only went out once, and their phone service was just as good as any regular landline I've ever had I just never used it so I had them shut it off. ..|

Being internet savvy I don't really have need for recording devices. And because a lot of the shows I like to watch don't air in Australia until months after they air in the US or UK downloading them just makes more sense.

I have AT&T landline(use to be Southern Bell, then Bell South). The one thing I thought was bad about TW telephone service is that if the power in your home goes out for whatever reason, you better have a Cell cause you won't have a working phone...

I'm sure TW is figuring out how to solve that problem..They're still getting customers regardless...
