  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

are you (or do you know) a misogynist?

Aye, women are horrific drivers which brings us to part two of our thread: WILL YOU SIGN A PETITION TO HAVE WOMEN REMOVED FROM OUR PUBLIC ROADS?

I haven't seen any study yet saying women caused the most traffic accidents.

I confess that I often become one, or more likely, reveal my inner feelings, in traffic.

The mistakes that many women make appear different than the typical mistakes that I observe male drivers make.

Indecision, confusion, obliviousness, and fickleness on the road anger me.

I work hard to never let women know just how much that feeling is present, as I do believe women our equals in society. That said, I am horribly sexist behind the wheel, in my heart.

My theory is that bad female drivers involve hesitation and obliviousness...but bad male drivers invove aggression and dickish behavior. So the guys just zoom past you or cut you off, so they don't stick around long enough to notice their gender or allow you to pull a "stupid men drivers!" routine. Or we men just accept naked aggression behing the wheel ("yeah, I know how that feels") but not the indecisiveness of women.

I treat women like people. Not goddesses, bot china dolls, not "failed men" - people. Surprising how well that turns out.

Sad but true. Whenever I get stuck at a green light and the car not moving is an SUV, I just automatically assume it is a woman on her cellphone. The one upside to riding in the car with my dad is hearing him cuss like a sailor at bad ones.

Depends on who you ask. Some feminists out there believe that if you have a penis, then you're a misogynist. No exceptions.

One of my co-workers at a previous job went around telling people that he wanted to get married to a woman who, when he came home from work, would have dinner on the table and her legs in the air.

Subconsciously speaking, that is probably what most straight men want.

that's terrible!

ugh I can't look at Mimi the same way after seeing her on HSN...

Yes, and I don't find the term pejorative as my misogyny is based on my personal experiences and observations.

Emphasising 'personal experience' does not automatically nullify the prejudicial basis of a statement or belief. Roughly 50% of the world's population is female. Over the course of your entire life the number of women you will encounter is infinitesimal on such a scale, and as such your cursory 'understanding' of women is negligible. Perhaps you could try looking at the world through a lens broader than the scope of your own 'personal experiences' (which are often subject to confirmation bias).

If an Asian steals the laptop from my bag at uni, do I blame his race? No, I blame the individual for being a selfish, inconsiderate thief. If a few black guys call me a faggot, do I blame their race? No, I blame the individuals for their obnoxious, hateful homophobia. If a woman cuts me off in traffic, do I blame her gender? Again, no, I blame the individual for being an inattentive, absentminded driver.

Misogyny is equal to racism and homophobia in that it is hate born of ignorance and false superiority. That you seem almost proud to label yourself as such absolutely astounds me.

…is hate born of ignorance and false superiority…

And being a member of the PC Brigade gives lots of people a sense of false superiority.

Liam was being honest about his individual feelings about some individual people. Anders, it is you who are making generalisations.

Opposing racist, homophobic, and misogynistic behaviour does not make one a member of the 'PC Brigade'. Referring to a brain storm as a 'thought shower' so as to avoid offending those with epilepsy might, but disapproving of bigotry does not.

Misogyny by definition is the hatred of women, therefore labeling oneself as such is effectively saying "I hate women". Please explain to me how that phrase itself is not a bigoted generalisation. condescendingwonka.jpg

Nothing I said indicated any superiority of myself or men over women. As I also said, it was my observations which shape my attitude which has, at times, had a wide angle lens. Were an Asian to steal my laptop and that is the only Asian I'd ever encountered or will encounter than it wouldn't be a far stretch if I were to blame the person's race. The same goes for your situation regarding blacks.

People bitch and moan about stereotypes and racism, misogyny. But you know what? Those ideas didn't just come out of no where. Someone wasn't sitting around saying, "you know what? Women are moody, selfish, manipulative, hypothetical cunts" and then all of a sudden people heard this and thought, "you know, I've never encountered any of that but shit it sounds right to me." Now, that's not to say that the same description doesn't hold true for men.

Women want to be treated as equal - fine - I see no problems. I will, however, not tolerate the bitching that you have to pick-up the dog shit and how it's not a woman's job, etc.

But I am glad I could astound. You're welcome.

continuing the hate.

THis kind of PC Dogma sounds EXACTLY the same as religious dogma!

The Christians went on for centuries being superior and finding people to hate. Now the PC Brigade are being superior and finding people to hate.

Ah yes, insisting that an individual should be held accountable for his/her actions rather than them being representative of an entire demographic is 'PC dogma'.

Yes it would, because you'd be foolish enough to assume that one person's behaviour is a representation of an entire demographic. That is what I was referring to when I mentioned trying to view the world through a lens broader than the scope of your own experiences.

I'm not denying that some stereotypes stem from a source, but you're failing to recognise the possibility of confirmation bias. How often do you hear "I hate gay people, they all act like women". Yes, there are effeminate gay men, but do they represent the entire homosexual demographic? Does that stereotype apply to you? Then why should the 'moody, selfish, manipulative cunt' stereotype apply to all women?
