Are you planning to visit the Vermeer show in Amsterdam?

An historic exhibition of works by the 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer opened a few days ago at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and will continue until early June. This is a show I've been looking forward to seeing and am hoping I can orchestrate upcoming travels in order to do so.

This also looks really interesting:

My partner and I often schedule trips around special exhibitions and events such as these. My last visit to Dublin was, in fact, inspired by a show on Vermeer and Dutch genre painting. This was also an opportunity to fly south to England and see the Raphael drawing show at the Ashmolean in Oxford during the same trip.

That surely is tempting, but I'm in the throes of repairing house to sell to move, and expect to be moving in June.

I've planned other trips around exhibits, but not overseas. Maybe once I retire, or if I have the funds once I get my new house.

Not likely, given that I currently have a travel budget of $0!

According to this item, it's almost sold out:

Over the years, we have seen many of the Vermeers that will be part of this exhibition.

But I would love to have a trip to Amsterdam.

If it's almost sold out, I doubt it. I like Amsterdam though and it's only a short flight from Birmingham.

Yes I will go and see the it in early May, Amsterdam is not far from Cologne.
After the first run there will be tickets in May.
For those who can`t go,
there will be a live show of the exhibition in selected cinemas, not the same but you might see things closer than in the museum.

Latimer, I saw earlier this week that the entire exhibition had sold out in two days. Did you manage to score tickets?

The Rijksmuseum website says:

"Interest in the Vermeer exhibition is very high. Unfortunately, there are no more tickets available at the moment. The Rijksmuseum is working hard to give more people the opportunity to see the exhibition. From 6 March, we will provide a new update via the Rijksmuseum website."

No, unfortunately. I thought I had a week or two in which to do so, but when I went to the website three or so days into the opening, I saw that it had already sold out. Perhaps it sold out before it even opened. I wonder if tour groups bought blocks of tickets. Fortunately, I was able to see the last important Vermeer show--which I mentioned in my original post--in Dublin a few years ago.

Keep your eyes on the Rijksmuseum's website starting early next Monday when they add that update. They're probably trying wither to extend the closing date or extend opening hours. I bet you that all hope is not lost!

I understand my Amsterdam cousins do have tickets. Lucky them. Poor us.

That's wonderful. I think I enjoy stuff like this by proxy just KNOWING someone got to go. In this case, I don't know the cousins, but the cousins of a friend will go, so that's close enough to feel some vicarious joy.
