In hoc signo vinces
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Sic semper tyrannis
What is a hypotenuse?
What is pi?

These are terms that I heard used as a boy, In hoc signo vinces is a phrase that I read on a pack of cigarettes when I was stealing one at the age of 10 from my uncle.

Eventually I looked up the meaning to each phrase or term, so my question is,
Does curiosity prompt you to find out about terms, phrases, ideas and such that you have never heard of before? Do you just have to know?

Unfortunately. The newest is Rareboy's gem on bothy, right up there with the older English I got from the roomie last night for 'the day before yesterday' and 'the day after tomorrow'.

^ That was me.

And sure I look up things I don't know. A day is never wasted if you learn something new.

Damn, apologies! Quite a nice word, rolls off the tip of the tongue. Very auditoraly pleasing. But there's so very much one doesn't know. At times it might as well be a 'Take a Number' queue at the dmv and every number ahead of you also represents something you don't know, that you specifically didn't know you were unaware of until you've heard it. And then the specifics slip on by, such that people ask others what # is up despite such being visible o'er their collective head. Kind've reminds me of 'Rat in a Cage' by Smashing Pumpkins.

I mean, sure, learning is often a delight - but as well, I was unawares many other people were quite so masochistic in acknowledging quite how much they don't know. Or possibly not, going by the dearth of replies so far.*

-*Nvm, forgot it was Sunday, a lack is to be expected.

I do sometimes.

Sometimes people just come off as if they are trying to show how much smarter they are so I don't bother.

But there's so very much one doesn't know.

Indeed. And it doesn't even have to be something astounding or amazing. It can be something as simple as learning what a 'bothy' is. (By the way, if there was enough room in my bothy, I'd love to have a 'snug' in it. Perhaps that's another new word for you. ;) )

Always willing to learn! ..|

These days, it's more about the capacity to remember! :slap: #-o

I am curious in a different way. I like to know what people think. Most of the threads I start are just because I am curious what people think on said topic. Sometimes it's more about how they answer than the answer. Because of this I like to be advised by a lot of different people.

I think that's important, I call it picking someone's brain. To know what others think and how they came to their conclusions is a learning experience.

Sometimes I look something up but not always. If something has come up for the third time I realize that I better look it up.

I just lost my mother and I am having a hard time this election season. Since I was a kid we would go over stuff to see how we would vote. With my mother gone I only have my brother and sister in law. My brother however is a hardcore Trump supporter so I can't talk to him. My brother is also an ass if I try to talk to my sister in law. It drives him nuts she is not as conservative.

So, what would you say to your mom about the election. What would you ask?

I can't imagine a day without searching out some new knowledge.
