I check craigslist for jobs everyday. Most of the jobs require some skill I don't have or experience. So the jobs that are open to me are laborer ones or I could do cashiering. So my ceiling is low.

But many of you have degrees or experience to do higher level jobs. But some people are not having luck finding those better positions. BabyGay posted an article about a guy who turned down a job he thought was a step down for him.

I am wondering how far down you are willing to go to get a job. So say you have a degree in business. Are you willing to be a waiter?

Maybe you have already tried to get a lower job. Why did they reject you (i am thinking some jobs don't want someone who is too smart)?

Reluctantly, but honestly, I can say I haven't put forth as much effort as I could in finding a job. However, for basic stuff, I don't really trust Craigslist. Most the jobs seem to involve having a title to the tune of "payments receivable officer" and involve cashing bogus checks on your own account. I use CL all the time for buying and selling misc junk but I consider their job section to be about as high quality as their hookups section.

As far as how low I'll go for money, well, it depends on how good the potential employer looks. Pride matters.

As it stands, I'm one of the people still looking for work after getting my degree.

I would love for the job I get to be in my field, but that seems to be less and less likely for now. I've mostly been applying for administrative/secretarial positions, but I rarely hear back from anyone and if I do, it's usually a letter of rejection.

I have applied for some odd jobs (bartender, working in a pet store, etc) but those also get filed under the 'never heard back from' category.

My expectations are pretty low, but I do have some jobs I don't even consider...

Sales mostly, because I hate the sales environment. I don't like pushing extra stuff/up-selling on customers (I hate when they do it to me when I go shopping, so I tend to sympathize and not do it) which usually leads to trouble for me...or at least it did in my last sales job...

c750dt - What are better sources for jobs? Local paper?

TheReaper - Gosh, there are always administrative/secretarial positions on craigslist. I don't apply because I am not a typist and don't know how to use most software. Funny thing, I guess there are things I won't do. I won't do sales either. And just yesterday someone suggested canvassing and my answer was "hell no."

Regardless of your educational level, you need to do what you have to do to keep your bills paid. I know plenty of people with degrees working in retail as clerks or slinging hamburgers (or both) just to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. They just can't find anything else after months of searching. It is true that jobs are not easy to find right now but you have to keep trying to find SOMETHING. Anything that will bring in a weeks pay. That doesn't mean you are doomed to that forever but for now, you have to survive. Eventually, all of this will pass and things will get better. They aways do. This has been so bad and has lasted so long that it's going to take time to crawl out of it.

I am very fortunate to be working. If I were not, I would find whatever I could to make some money, even if I had to wash cars or sling burgers or deliver pizza or mow lawns. Money is money.

People, network, network, network. Do it constantly and through everyone you know. Do it for yourself and anyone else you know who is looking for work.

What is your policy of return?;) Will there be a guarantee of satisfaction?
