Are you willing to pay ....

Prices can be that bad in Downtown Chicago, or at a Cubs game. I would only pay that much If I was on vacation to a place I knew I wasn't going to come back to ie a one shot deal.

If I were to pay $30 for a cocktail, I better get slammed off that single drink.

Although even the cheap drinks are expensive; about $4 or $5 each, which is probably why more people I know are getting together at home instead of going to bars. A 40 of rye is $35.75; you can get completely trashed twice for what it would cost to get borderline drunk/buzzed once in a bar.

Back in the olden' days, there was a drink called a Dark Star. You used a 12oz pilsner glass. In the glass went 1 shot Baileys, 1 shot Kahlúa and 1 shot of brandy (over ice). The rest was half 7up and half Coke. Cost in '84 was $7 (would = 16 in 2015 dollars). Drink 3-5, try to get up off your bar stool and you'll find out why they were called a Dark Star.

Piss, well packaged, can deceive.

Piss artists, with money to burn, predictably assume that a higher price justifies their self indulgence.

I believe a paid 30 Euros at Caffe' Florian in Piazza San Marco for an Aperol Spritz and potato chips on three occasions last May, looking out upon one of the most beautiful spaces in the world, with La Vie en Rose playing in the background. Cheap for the price.

For 30 or 35 euros you should try their high tea in the afternoon. And also try Lavena and Quadri on the other side of the square.

over priced drinks like:
cocktail = $30,
less than half glass of red wine = $15 ?

I won't or reluctant to pay that much ....

Sloppyseconds' reply was easier to understand than your original question.

Hey, the thought just struck me: are you and Sloppy the same person?

oh shut up.
If i know who you are, i would have ignored you LOL

We went to Claridges for afternoon tea, a few years ago, never again. We thought it simply wasn't worth the money for a few petit fours and minute sandwiches.

We see your point Telly, but, the prices reflect what the establishment thinks it can gouge from you. On the other hand, it has overheads, like rent, electric etc, and staff fees and taxes. The price also deters riff raff who have no money.

No way.

Back when I drank I remember going to a dance club in the city with friends and I did not like how the one mixed drink on special I ordered an Alabama slammer cost $10 and I gave a $1 tip. I also paid for my friend's drink a rum coke, and his roommates' drink a beer since they paid for my cab fare.

Later my friend ordered the same drink I did, an Alabama Slammer, and the special for drink prices was over, and he paid $20 for it and then expected me to tip the bartender for his drink, and I just said, 'You ordered it, it's your drink.'

If I really want something, then I'll pay for it. But I can't think of anything that I want so badly that I'll pay for it if it's overpriced.

I have paid around $25 for a yard style drink in Las Vegas. Spendy, but I collect the cups.

I've spent 10-12 on a "double" drink at a couple of arena shows. Like double rum and coke. Always put a $1 in the tip jar before you order and they'll give you a bit extra.

But no way would I pay $30 for a drink, unless it was like half a pint's worth of some amazing single malt scotch. I will spend for single malt scotch, but no way would it be $30 for a sip. Fancy mixed drinks, I could take or leave them.
