Re: Senate Discusses Gay Marriage in Argentina

Gotta love the fact it's being discussed world-wide just 41 years after Stonewall. Will the US be last in line?

So the latest tally of Argentine senators gives us a slight lead (32 Yes, 30 No, 10 Undecided/Won't Say/Abstaining), but the poll does not take into account that some (at least 2) of the No votes will be unable to vote as they are in China.

I liked how the President compared the claims/behavior of the Catholic bishops to those made during the inquisitions!

P.S. That picture of her and Obama is cute IMO.

Argentina approves gay marriage

Fucking A.

First country in Latin America. :)

Re: Argentina approves gay marriage

"Key to Argentina's human rights achievement was strong leadership from legislators and the president. It is time we see more of our own elected officials standing up for the Constitution and all families here in the United States. America should lead, not lag, when it comes to treating everyone equally under the law."

They said a mouthfull

Argentina legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

With the full support of it's President, the lovely and fierce Cristina Fernandez.

Watch her not so much defending same sex marriage, as calling those who oppose it on their bullshit

What is it with countries who had the worst dictatorships that now are the most progressive??? (Spain, Portugal, Argentina, South Africa).

I think that the countries who should hang their heads in SHAME are (not the US, after all the wignuts are too many there) in order

Denmark
Finland
United Kingdom
Germany
France
New Zealand

Re: Argentina legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

After Henry VIII came Elizabeth I; this was regarded as the golden age for Britian and it was very sexually permissive. After the French Revolution, which broke the power of the Roman Catholic Church, France became the destination for sexual fun. The 1920's in Germany were also very sexually free for a short time. There seems to be a cyclical correlation between repression and freedom in human history.

Spain seems to like to hide its gayness though.

What do you mean? I thought Spain was one of the first countries to legalize gay marriage?

And Cristina is so fierce. Love her for being defending and supporting gay rights. It's the first country in Latin America to legalize gay marriage. Hopefully it won't be the last. This is just the beginning for them.

Re: Argentina legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

"Denmark
Finland
United Kingdom
Germany
France
New Zealand"

Denmark: A recent attempt to pass gay marriage there failed by 51 to 57. The current government is conservative though, and even then it didn't fail by much. I'm sure in 2 or 3 years it will be legalized.

Finland: Efforts are currently underway. A comission will start this fall to research the issue. It will be voted on some point shortly after the April elections next year.

UK: Talk is starting there now. Probably will happen in about 5 years or so.

Germany: As the result of a recent court ruling saying that gay couples must have all the rights of straight couples, a same sex marriage bill is expected to be introduced either late this year or early next year.

France: Due to the 2006 report by Parliment rejecting gay marriage, it's unlikely they will legalize it in the next 10 years or so.

New Zealand: There has been no talk really, so it probably won't happen for a while.
