Hey JD!

Anyway you can quote the actual wording of the ballot measure so that we can see how Arizonians are voting, and for/against what?

;)

This is great, unfortunatley, Virginia isn't doing so well, see the "I have lost faith" thread.

It would also take away benefits from many unmarried couples, gay and Strait. I don't hold that much hope for actual Gay Marriage or Civil Unions, but this is looking farley positive so far. And here I thought it would easily pass, I overestimated the homophobicness of my State.

Yes, I see that... AZ is a standout in a homophobic ballot season so far...

284,881 Yes
305,414 No

Others aren't fairing so well, but they tend to be in those damn red states..... I think I'm never going to wear red again!

Unfortunately, both of CO's initiatives are going the wrong way... and they have two... one to ban gay marriage and one to allow domestic partnerships with equal rights as those of married couples. And yet, we're losing both battles there.

This was indeed shocking, but on the up side, activists can point to the bipartisan effort in AZ to defeat bigotry!

Arizona Proposition 107:Ban Same-Sex Marriage
Updated: 10:41 p.m. Yes 74,940 43%

No 97,523 57%

Looking good! :D

Yes, yes it does :D .

I'm so happy that my home state is somewhat progressing in our thinking.

A good day for Arizona.

It does look like AZ is going to pull through... but it hasn't been called yet from what I see on the CNN website. 99% reporting, but it looks very very good as the above numbers are the most recent I have. Awww, and to think it was one of the places I could have moved... I knew there was a reason I didn't look at TN haha.

Arizona Proposition 107:
Ban Same-Sex Marriage

No 583,830 51%

Looks like Arizona went the other way on this one, and sent a message that they will not be influenced by this archaic and biggoted sentimient sweeping the nation! They said No to banning gay Marriage! ..|

Congrats Arizonians! :D :D :D

:=D:

That is some great news! (!)

Now we can pay attention to New Jersey, and Massachusetts to see what happens in their respective Legislatures.

Now Bush can blab on and on about "activist judges" and he can go and blow it out of his ass! Those judges will eventually over throw many of these bans as contrary to the U.S. Constitution. Hopefully. I just now no longer believe I'll live to see it.

As an Arizonan, I'm proud we won (although it was close). It wasn't a total victory though. The proposition also negatively impacted straight people living outside the "sanctity" of marriage. Consequently it was not exclusively a support or approval of gay marriage.
I don't have the status of past elections, but even with defeat in the other states, we are probably closer to our goal than we have ever been.
Time and education could change things elsewhere too.

Three cheers for Arizona! This is so exciting for us. Arizona became the first state to reject a gay marriage ban and even though I haven't seen all the margins of victory I thought that the ones that did pass were suprisingly close. I thought I read that South Dakota passed a gay marriage ban with 52% of the vote which is not as strong of a win as I would have expected in South Dakota. And on a similar note the abortion ban was defeated in South Dakota. I really think the GOP has pushed the "values voters" issues too much and too hard. They have relied too heavily on them and hopefully we will see an end to divisive and insulting gay marriage bans as political tools.

Good for Arizona, and they told J.D. Hayworth to go find a job also. Are the demographics changing out there?

As an Arizonan [snip]
Consequently it was not exclusively a support or approval of gay marriage.

Yeah, and even if it was, you must tip toe around even mentioning that you want gay marriage, or you'll hand Congress right back to the GOP... don't you know that?
