Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCongress

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

Impeachment? Waste of time.

Charge him with war crimes and treason, and we'd be finally be doing what should have been done.

I would love to see Bush and Cheney in jail. The people in the US and the rest of the World need to see that we still believe in justice...we must show the World that justice will prevail. I would also like to see the head of companies like Haliburton go to jail as well...instead of being aloud to hide out in Dubai

Why do you feel Kucinich is a moron?

Top Six Reasons Dennis Kucinich is a Moron

6. "I am running for president of the United States to enable the goddess of peace to encircle within her arms all the children of this country and all the children of the world." -Dennis Kucinich.
I don't care if you're a Wiccan or Greenie or Treehugger or whatever the hell you want to call yourself. If you make that statement in public, you're a moron.

5. "The energy of the stars becomes us. We become the energy of the stars. Stardust and spirit unite and we begin: one with the universe, whole and holy. From one source, endless creative energy, bursting forth, kinetic, elemental; we, the earth, air, water and fire-source of nearly fifteen billion years of cosmic spiraling." -Ibid.

4. "After I lost the [mayoral] election in Cleveland in 1979, I moved to California for a while. I actually remember walking in the area around L.A. known as MacArthur Park, and I was thinking of that song and thinking of the lyrics where they talk about 'Someone left the cake out in the rain. It took so long to make it.' And it goes on, raising the question of whether I'll ever have that recipe again." -Ibid.
Somebody just put him out of his misery, please?!

3. In 2001, he introduced a bill to ban space-based and other exotic weapons, including "radiation, electromagnetic, psychotronic, sonic, laser, or other energies . . . for the purpose of information war, mood management, or mind control of such populations."

2. One book recently named him as the 7th worst mayor of American history, not for any reasons of corruption or scandal, but due to his "abrasive, intemperate, and chaotic administration." He survived a recall vote after only ten months in office by 231 votes (out of 120,000) and was voted out after one term by Republican George Voinovich, even through Democrats outnumbered Republicans 8 to 1. When he threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland Indians game, he wore a bullet-proof vest and had sharpshooters positioned on the stadium roof. This because he had recently fired the chief of police live on the 6 o'clock news. Apparently decorum is something that happens to other people.

1. "I believe life begins at conception and that it doesn't end at birth." -Dennis Kucinich

No, I have no problem with his anti-abortion stance. I take issue with it because it's a stupid statement.

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

...It's not that it's too late, it's just that it took them about two and a half years to read the whole thing.
(I had CSPAN on as background noise, left the house, went out to dinner, came back and it was still on)

Sad, though, that nothing will happen...Not even Pelosi is up for it

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

I'm aware of the big savings for Cleveland due to his not selling off the electric company. The point was regarding his ongoing lack of organizational and interpersonal skills.

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

I don't see any purpose, or good reason for trying to impeach Bush at this time. As bad as Bush has been, It's going to be difficult to prove that his actions rise to the level of an impeachable offense.

OMG I'm agreeing with EvilForce a second time. A may have misunderestimated you.

But I'll settle for impeachment.

I realize that even many who would be generally for it are like "it's too late, let it go" but what he did was even greater than a high crime or misdemeanor. Flat out provably in court he has committed war crimes (starting a war of aggression) and committed treason against the United States (Niger Uranium hoax, Plamegate). He's not just a bad president, he is a criminal president, and to allow him to continue to be president unimpeached is just...wrong.

I don't see any purpose, or good reason for trying to impeach Bush at this time. As bad as Bush has been, It's going to be difficult to prove that his actions rise to the level of an impeachable offense.

I don't see that as being difficult at all. War crimes, treason, torture, illegal wiretapping, violations of the constitution (see, blatant disregard of), and so on.

He needs to be sentenced. But the problem is Cheney does too. I'd actually prefer to impeach Cheney first. A scapegoat, sort of a nice compromise.

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

Yesterday, the House voted 251-166 to send the 35 Articles of Impeachment introduced on Monday to the House Judiciary Committee.

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/255999

send that measure to the House Judiciary Committee, which is a procedure used to kill legislation and is often describe as being sent to committee to die.

Previous articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney were sent to the same committee back in November and considered likely to not be addressed while the present administration is in office.

I hope that this is not the end of it. Even if it has to be addressed after they leave, I want it to be addressed.

Congress to hold an impeachment hearing this Friday, July 25 starting at 10:00am

A number of speakers will advocate impeachment and ten members of the House Judiciary Committee are expected to speak for impeachment.

Elliot Adams, president of Veterans for Peace has issued an impassioned message urging everyone to send an email or call their elected officials during the next days telling them to support impeachment.

Elliot wrote:

Dear fellow Americans,

In the military we took an oath the defended the Constitution of the United Sates from all enemies, foreign and domestic. We in Veterans For Peace (VFP) still honor that oath. To defend the Constitution, to reestablish the balance of power, to protect the ideal of a democracy, we must impeach and do it now. We are asking you to join us in this short but intense campaign of calling Congressmen and demanding impeachment, call between now and July 25th: Call your own representative, call members of the House Judiciary Committee and call them often. Call them yourself and get your friends and neighbors to call.

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

That linked-page petition has a field for State/Province.

But I think it's safe to say that the senators would pay even less attention to Canadians than they do to Americans.

Is that even possible? They only thing that they ever paid attention to in the past, was the almighty dollar... :grrr:

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

We need to impeach BOTH 'W' & DICK !!

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

The organization that was pushing to impeach Bush is not pushing to Indict him.
I just received an email from the Former US Attorney General, Ramsey Clark asking people to support this effort.

The greatest danger arising from impunity for President Bush and his cohorts would be that all subsequent officials will feel secure in committing the same crimes and the people, having failed to compel impeachment for such open, notorious and egregious crimes, will feel even more helpless to prevent them. Ultimately the power and the responsibility to prevent criminal acts by government is with the people.

The movement for accountability is sweeping the country. The Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, John Conyers, and the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Patrick Leahy, are both proposing to launch investigations into the possibilities of criminal conduct by high officials in the Bush Administration.

Now is the time for massive outreach and publicity. This requires organizing national call-in days to pressure Congressional representatives, intensive media work, and providing literature for people of conscience to distribute in cities and towns across the country.

Please consider taking a moment right now to make a donation to this new movement for the indictment of Bush. There is no time to spare. The time to act is now and we will.

The crimes of the Bush administration must be proclaimed, acknowledged and remembered because their disastrous human consequences, dictatorial tendencies, subversion of Constitutional government and violation of the rights and dignity of humanity. They include wars of aggression, the crime against peace and the "Supreme International Crime," war crimes, and crimes against humanity, genocide by military violence "with intent to destroy in whole, or in part, a national... or religious group," authorizing and condoning massive violations of the Constitution of the United States, its Bill of Rights and other Amendments, international treaties including the U.N. Charter, Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Convention Against Torture, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the Geneva Conventions.

The clear duty of the American people and their elected representatives -- on which the changes in U.S. government policies essential to achieve a peaceful, decent and humane future depend -- is the vigorous pursuit of the indictment of former President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and other high officials who have participated in their crimes, followed by rigorous criminal prosecution wherever the evidence, having been fully and fairly presented to a federal grand jury, results in their indictment.

The indictment of George W. Bush and other high officials is the challenge facing 'We, the People.' Will we rise to meet it? This is not a matter of politics or partisanship. It is the defense of the basic tenets of the Constitution.

thoughts?

Re: Articles of Bush Impeachment Introduced inCong

Unfortunately, not only can future Presidents get away with even the most egregious shit now that GWB is unlikely to be held accountable, but it's a "double edged sword." Because if GWB were to be indicted or worse, I can assure you that the Republicans would, in turn, make sure they "get" Obama.

And, unlike the wussy Democrats who had their chance and blew it, the Republicans are unlikely to wait until he has been replaced by the next President.

a little update.

Breaking news: Indictment of Bush Officials May Come in Days
Newsweek Breaks Shocking New Revelations About Disappeared Persons

From Pinochet to Bush, the Path to Prosecution

14401.jpg

* The imminent indictment in Spanish courts of former officials of the Bush Administration is being applauded by civil and human rights organizations and legal scholars. The popular wave of support for indictment of Bush officials will inevitably lead to Bush himself.

* Newsweek Magazine blew open more shocking news about Bush' system of kidnapping, secret prisons and torture. A secret Red Cross report indicates that many kidnapped and tortured people were turned into "disappeared persons" by the CIA under instructions from Bush and Cheney. A former Bush administration official told Newsweek's Michael Isikoff that the information had been hidden from the Red Cross. "The majority of the people in the CIA program are unaccounted for. We don't know what happened to them," a human rights investigator told Isikoff.

* Like Bush, former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, thought his power would shield him from criminal prosecution when his regime kidnapped and tortured and assassinated individuals who became known as the "disappeared." It was when Spanish courts brought indictments against Pinochet that everything changed. As Michael Ratner, president of the Center for Constitutional Rights said, "the importance of this investigation [in Spain] can not be understated. Contrary to statements by some, the Spanish investigations are not 'symbolic.' Just ask Augusto Pinochet, who was stranded under house arrest in England and who ultimately faced criminal charges in Chile because of the pressure of the Spanish courts. If and when arrest warrants are issued, 24 countries in Europe are obligated to enforce them. The world is getting smaller for the torture conspirators.”

Ramsey Clark, former U.S. Attorney General has called for the prosecution of Bush and other high officials in the United States, stating, "The greatest danger arising from impunity for President Bush and his cohorts would be that all subsequent officials will feel secure in committing the same crimes and the people, having failed to compel impeachment for such open, notorious and egregious crimes, will feel even more helpless to prevent them. Ultimately the power and the responsibility to prevent criminal acts by government is with the people."

Today, a coalition of organizations is presenting more than 250,000 petition signatures to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder requesting that he appoint a special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute Bush-era officials responsible for torture carried out under the Bush Admnistration.

More than 134,000 people have signed the referendum at IndictBushNow.
