Ask the Pornographer (Mark III)

Jasun,

Do you think there's a difference between a porn STAR and a porn SUPERSTAR? In gay porn, the usual names from past and present are talked about as superstars.....Ryan Idol, Jeff Stryker, Ken Ryker, Billy Herrington, Matthew Rush, Francois Sagat, , etc. In straight porn, there's of course Jenna Jameson and many more.

I believe I've seen this sentence posted before...."The age of the gay porn superstar and the huge payouts/contracts are over for now". Do you agree with this? If so, do you believe it's because of the large number of fresh talent getting involved in gay porn over the years?

An excellent question and the answer is "both."

I think the days of the hot guy who could just walk in the door and write his own ticket are long gone. The days of the million dollar pay day in porn are gone. If you want to make money in this industry, you're going to have to work for it. If you want to have a long-term career, you're going to have to be a JAke cruise or a Collin O'Neal or a Jasun Mark. Hey, I may as well ring my own bell a bit.

JAke has lasted in this industry because he's a genius. He saw a market and he tailored his content for it. Collin lasted because he's a hot man and great performer who was also smart and directed his own content.

I've managed to eek out a career because I've been able to figure out what I do best and what I wouldn't do well...

If you can't direct and can't blog and aren't a great businessman, you're going to be another porn star who burns bright and fast.

Well I mean in terms of acting. You're more behind the scenes and I would expect that would be more of a stable situation than acting in the movies because there isn't the pressure to look a certain way, or what not, all the time. I just feel as if porn stars are (in general) young was wondering if they didn't pursue behind the scenes stuff if there was an average length that their on-camera career lasted. Or do most retire to a behind the scenes when they feel they are done with on-camera? Or am I getting all of this horribly wrong

I mean, to most performers, it's not a career so much as a hobby. So for most it's an on-off thing and most just do a few movies and move on. But the guys who make a living out of it... generally two to five years is about as long as I've seen most guys work. Although Dean Phoenix is still rocking after about 17 years.

Have you ever had to deal with any physical altercations or assaults while directing, either at you or between models?

Um... no.

What?

you mean like... the models fighting?

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was just curious. If you've never seen it or heard of that happening, then it seems the porn industry is considerably safer in that regard than most other industries. I have personally seen engineers and scientists hit each other a couple times, and I've seen drillers and oilfield workers get into shoving matches when they've spent too long away from home. Porn just might be a lot more civilized than that.

Hey Jasun,

Do you like wearing suits like one you wear at a gala? If so do you have a picture of it? Would love to see how you look nice and tight. (Not that you do normaly. ;))

I can assure you that I've never even heard of any fist fights breaking out on a porn set.

Jasun,

You may have to think about this for a minute :-) You and I both know the money is not the only reason why a lot of str8 men have appeared in gay porn all these years, so....my question is: If men were paid more money per scene AND treated much better than they are now in str8 porn (not treated as "props" for the female talent), do you believe there would be as many str8 men in gay porn today?

If a performer were to ask you to fluff him between takes, would you do it?

If a performer wanted to "get you off";) either during or right after a shoot, would you allow him?

Have you heard any stories about any gay porn companies being in financial trouble?

Have you ever had sex in a public place? What's the weirdest place you've had sex?
