Oh, whats the percentage of women subscribers to Fratmen.TV?
Do you/is it possible to keep a count?

As I always tell the Fratmen, we dont' check IDs at the door. I guess we could look at each and every name and see whether they're male or female names, but that's pretty much the only way.

We DO get a lot of women, though.. much more than most porn sites.

Down you own any porn, and if so what is the oldest material?

I've got a bunch of Playgirl Magazines from the 70s and Physique magazines from the 50s and 60s in my bathroom.

I've got lots of Tom of Finland books and I've got a few books of Ancient Greek homoerotic art.

The oldest MOVIE I have would be a DVD of Kansas City Trucking Company. I've also got a few 70s porns like San Francisco Tool and Die and Sailor in the Wild.

But my favorite vintage porn is the Kristen Bjorn stuf from the mid 80s. I really think he took the genre to a new level. It was the first time I saw porn that featured men who seemed not only to be the kind of men I'd hang out with but the kind of men I'd want to be.

What's your newest?

I hold in my hot little hand the only copy in existence of Fratmen: Duos.

(Not scheduled to be released until November 30th.)

I also just got a care-package from my friends at Raging Stallion with a few advance copies of some gems.

the last porn I bought was a copy of Men Magazine. Which was silly considering one of my good friends works there and can get me copies for free, but I hate asking for promos.

no, I'm going just for a vacation.

And we don't shoot guys from LA. Kinda a rule, really.

We shot Alumni Weekend 5: Australia in Queensland, actually. We spent two fantastic days in Sydney before we flew to Brisbane and drove up the rest of the way.

Seriosuly, I never wanted to go home, and I plan to retire to Sydney if at all possible. Loved it there.

Queensland was stunning. I lost all my ambition laying on the beach. But I saw this hairy frog... that thing freaked me out.

I was wondering why actual salaries for porn stars are never discussed by guys in the industry like you. Last week you gave a vague answer that your models make "10 times more" than what we think but that's not really an answer. For example, I read that Sean Cody and Randy Blue pay a minimum of $1,500 a scene, so you're saying your guys make $15,000 for a solo shoot? C'mon, that can't be right. Why can't you list what models get paid or even a range? Is it because of the IRS? Do porn producers not fill out the 1099's and other required tax paperwork? Are you afraid other models might read the answer and get pissed that they didn't make that much? Let's face it, someone could dig up fake photos and send them off to you in an effot to pass themselves off as a prospective model just to find out what you pay, so why not just give out that info? At the very least, maybe you could explain why you can't divulge this info here.

Because it's none of your business.

The guys at Fratmen are paid quite well.. we'll leave it as that.

but no.. we do all the tax stuff.

(Oh, but no.. you can't just make up fake photos of yourself.. before we discuss that, we do make sure that the guy in the picture is the one we're talking to on the phone. Not to protect info but to make sure the guy is sending us current pictures of himself.)

Is there any animation in Califonian porn these days, or does the format preclude it?

you know, I've been hoping that an animation student would give us a call and offer us his services... I've been hoping to do a little, short 5-minute animated scene in one of the Fratmen movies..

I thought it would be a blast to do something that cool, but so far, no go.. if you know any animators, let me know..

1). What do the Fratmen, being staight (?) think about My Own Private Idaho (the movie)?

I can pretty much assure you that none of them have seen it. That movie is 15 years old (released when most of them were 3 or 4) and was a tiny little arthouse gay movie. Hardly anyone other than gay people who were desperate to see Keanu Reeves hug a guy went to see it at the time. If it was released now, it would be laughed out of theaters.

It doesn't really apply to the Fratmen, anyway. My Own Private Idaho was about straight guys who had sex with old men for money. They were rent boys, husstlers and street trade.

Fratmen are nude models who dont' have sex with ANYONE (as part of their jobs, anyway. I'm sure they to it recreationally).

I thought it stunk. That whole movie was just an excuse to for Gus Van Sant to see young guys hugging. Horrid acting, pretentious dialouge, boring "story' and klunky direction. The cinematography was attrocious and it was done on shitty film stock that made it look like a local cable access show. Personally, I think Gus Van Sant is a wreched director and needs to have his eyes popped out so we dont' have to have any more of his dumb-ass self-righeous and redundant film making wasting our time anymore.

I find it really sad that he's going to direct the Harvey Milk movie. Because you know it's going to be slow, boring, poorly directed and full of all sorts of unnecessary time wasting. I had really hoped that Harvey Milk would get a good movie about his life, and the only possible worse choice could be Joel Schumacher.

2). What are your views on the way Honcho magazine has changed over the years?

Meh. I was always a fan when I was younger, but I've been them get away from manly, hairy men and go with younger, thinner and to be honest uglier men in the last 10 years or so.

Yeah, Short Bus was a pile of shit, and I think the only people who claim to like it fell into two groups... pretentious losers and losers at the game of life.

So far, the only reasons that I've heard from people for liking it boil down to "I'm that much of a loser at the game of life so I liked seeing a loser like me in a movie and yeah, it was bad dialogue and a stupid story and looked like it was made by a three-year-old but at least I got to see other people with all my hang ups having sex" or "I like seeing a porn movie that I can brag about seeing becuase I'm pretending to be bragging about an art movie and I can pretend I wasn't turned on at all."

Depends... did you like it because it was porn you could get at a store that where you can also get Criterion movies or did you like it because you were glad that the stalker finally spoke for how you FEEEEEEEL?

We'll have to agree to disagree that Short Bus was about gay life in New York.

It was about gay life in the pathetic, usless mind of the dork who wrote Hedwig. I highly doubt that there are THAT many mentally broken people who talk like Jeff Stryker while having sex in the world, let alone in New York City where a bunch of whiners like that would get their asses kicked to Hoboken.

(And purely by coincidence : anóther Dutchie asking you questions….)

Okay, so I just spent the best part of 2 hours reading this thread, and I have to admit that I wasn’t quite familiar with Fratmen.tv (sorry) so had a quick browse through and can I just say that Carson is óne séxy guy! Those éyes! *swoon*
Anyway, seems like everything has already been asked of the guy behind the nick “Soilwork” i.e you (Looks like “How many times a week do you do it?” is about the only question left), so let us focus on Fratmen.tv :

How do you get your models? Do you advertise? Do you hand out businesscards to “potentials” on the street or on the beach? Do you just lean back and let the guys come to you? Etc etc (You’re a smart guy, you get the gist of this question)

Who decides who’s “eligible” for a photo/video shoot. Is that one person, or is that a team decision?

Suppose a guy in deepest darkest North Dakota e.g. sends you his pictures (or is “headhunted”, “scouted”, whatever) and judging from his pictures he’s the bee’s knees in guys, the perfect Fratman: what then? Do you send someone out to deepest etc North Dakota to see the guy in person, and have him do a screentest to see how he holds on film. Or do you send him a planeticket to LA, and see how he holds on film when he’s in LA?

When the Fratmen are in LA for their shoot, do you put them up in a hotel, in a rented house, in your spare bedroom? Also, I read you mentioning Fratmen having dinner together, with you cooking (Bonus question: Suppose I make it to LA one day, will you then cook me dinner? –Just lóve it when a guy cooks me dinner! ;-) - ) , does that mean you arrange multiple photo/video shoots with potential Fratmen once a month or something?

Ever did a photo/video shoot of a truly stunning guy, perfection right down to his little toe, but in the end chucked the whole shoot because his beauty didn’t “translate” onto pictures/videos ?

Do these guys do it “for a reason” (e.g. cash-problems, need a new car, pay for university), just because they’re proud of their body (and there’s absolutely nó reason why they shouldn’t be, don’t get me wrong!), as a stepping-stone maybe into the entertainment business (be it “Hollywood”, modelling etc.), or just for fun?

I think I read somewhere that you don’t take in guys from LA (can’t find the precise post at the moment): is there a reason for that?

Anyway, that concludes the voting from the Netherlands (for the time being)

1. As depresssing as it may be, Trick was a lot more on the mark. So was Jeffrey. Honestly, New York isnt' really the city of freaks and cry babies that Short Bus made it out to be.

2. No. We generally just shoot with natural light. not a lot of that in caves.

How do you get your models?

Lots of ways but I can't really get too specific. We don't wanna give away any company secrets.

Who decides who’s “eligible” for a photo/video shoot. Is that one person, or is that a team decision?

John Marsh, director of the Fratmen series has the last word, but he HAS asked for my input a few times.

Suppose a guy in deepest darkest North Dakota e.g. sends you his pictures (or is “headhunted”, “scouted”, whatever) and judging from his pictures he’s the bee’s knees in guys, the perfect Fratman: what then?

Oddly enough MOST of our guys aren't from anywhere near LA. We fly them to the locations.

When the Fratmen are in LA for their shoot, do you put them up in a hotel, in a rented house, in your spare bedroom?

We usually shoot in rented locations. We'll put the guys up there. We'll party together and have a great time. It's a fun shoot.

There's a documentary about Fratmen in Australia where we're all sitting down to dinner together. It's pretty fun to get all the guys to get together and make dinner. It's a great bonding experience.

does that mean you arrange multiple photo/video shoots with potential Fratmen once a month or something?

About once every three weeks. I write about them in my blog.

No. John can pull a performance out of just about anyone.

There's as many reasons as there are Fratmen, I'm sure.. mostly for the fun, I'd think.

I think I read somewhere that you don’t take in guys from LA (can’t find the precise post at the moment): is there a reason for that?

If you live in LA and want to make adult movies.. you already have. Why use somoene else's models when we can bring fresh faces to the Frathouse?

How can I find out information on porn stars that I liked in the 80's? I often find a lot of porn stars just go away and I never hear about them...

I know there's lots of sites dedicated to former porn stars... I usually just ask my friends...

1) What is a typical day for you like? (Get up time? Bed Time? Eat? Work out?)

2) How long do the guys stay in the fratpad for?

3) If you could be anyone past or present for 24 hrs who would it be and why?

4) What hidden talents do you have that no one on here knows about?

1) What is a typical day for you like? (Get up time? Bed Time? Eat? Work out?)

Wake up around 8AM. Get to the gym by 9AM. Back home for a quick coffee and snack before I hop in the shower by 10:30 and to work by 11. Work goes til about 6:30 then I'm back home to host the LIVE! show at 7 until 8. I usually work on my laptop while having dinner and sitting on the couch with my BF. Walk dogs and go to bed by about midnight.

If I'm on a shoot on the weekends I'm on call 24 hours, and I'm usually working all day getting the guys ready for their shoots.. taking them for haircuts and buying them clothes or props for their movies, taking them for lunch, taking them to the gym or keeping them entertained while they're not shooting.

2) How long do the guys stay in the fratpad for?

As long as it works for both of us. Leo's been there for 18 months, Morgan stayed for a week before deciding it wasn't for him. Average is about 5 months.

3) If you could be anyone past or present for 24 hrs who would it be and why?

George W Bush so I could jump in front of a bus.

4) What hidden talents do you have that no one on here knows about?

I doubt that there's much I haven't told people about. But many would be surprised to find out that I still get royalty cheques from some pop songs I wrote in the 90s. Including a country balad called "What are you dreaming tonight?" that I wrote with two other writers and an instrumental soundtrack for a Sci-Fi show called "FX: The Series."
