1 Why aren't more studios shooting in the highest definition formats? Is it that much more expensive to do 1080p instead of 720p?

there really is no excuse on that although I assume it's a cost of gear thing. I can't imagine not shooting in 1080p. My guess is tha they do but downscale for their membership sites due to bandwidth issues.


How are scouts compensated? Does a studio pay them more for 'better' models? Do the vast majority of models come in through big scouting agencies?

Every studio is different. Some have scouts on staff, some use agencies. The ones that use agencies are the ones who use the guys you see on 20 sites all at the same time...

Maybe this is another question for a scout, but I imagine that most of the world's most athletic guys got that way because it's part of their job - they're in college sports or professional sports, they're bodybuilders or acrobats or dancers, or models or actors. If you consider for example Paul Donahoe's story, don't the rules or expectations set out by these industries/organizations put huge constraints on a scout's recruiting pool? I get the sense that the more athletic a prospect is, the less willing he is to do porn, and this is because porn is expressly prohibited by the things that made him hot, ie college athletics. If that's the case, do you see this changing ever?

I mean, a lot of guys work out to look great... Those are the guys more likely to want to model. People who look good because of being athletes sometimes model but often are much more image conscious. And no... Don't see that changing..

If everyone just offers their own flat rate, is there still any kind of bidding that goes on for a model? What are the main ways studios specializing in similar tastes compete with each other to deliver the product that will win the most subscriptions, if not by offering a prospect higher compensation than the next studio?

That would fall under "industry's secret I can't talk about"

Um... I think a good porn star has to be much like a good reality show star... Professional when you need to be, drop all inhibitions when you need to and don't allow nas things said about you on the Internet to affect you in any way.

You need to understand that this is a business, not a thing you can do to get money with minimal work.

And you have to be willing to be naked with no control over the resulting pictures.

Some porn stars are good actors , many aren't. Even the ones that are are seldom given a chance to learn dialogue or do their lines more than once. Wait until François Sagat's Incubus comes out... There is some rather good acting in that because we took the time to let the actors act.

As far as,absurd casting goes... Yeah, drives me nuts. I hate that, too. Joe Gage is Brilliant with casting. Other studios...not so much.

I mean... I left mostly because my work got so insanely busy that I just didn't have the time to post Jake Cruise updates here. I also found that because I worked for a rather controversial porn star, I was a magnet for drama and it got really old really fast.

So I left, didn't plan on coming back.

I'm freelance now (I decided that I wanted to branch out... work for a bunch of different studios and take vacations when I wanted to, not be tied to one office... I was never really a good corporate guy). I'm busier so you're not going to be seeing me THAT much but I figured it would be fun to post about some of the movies that I've been working on.

I did some work on the Dominic Ford "so you think you can fuck season 2" and I also did some work on the new Francois Sagat movie. All sorts of other projects behind the scenes and a few things on the horizon... I blog about it but thought it might be fun to get some feedback here, too.
