What? Me? Really?
The topic is cultural relations between colonial powers and their former colonies.
This is one galvanizing example.
The program is HARDTalk and the format is a 25-minute interview by BBC host Stephen Sackur with powerful government leaders the world over. I don't think the US has anything of this gravitas.
This interview is getting a great deal of coverage in social media because a condescending journalist was served his ass on a platter from one of the colonials.
Although the political content is interesting, including a possible war between Guyana and Venezuela, the reason it is included here is not so much politics as it is broadcast practices and the treatment of non-Europeans in the Western media. At the 16-minute mark, there is a stunning exchange where the president rebuts the BBC host and doesn't allow himself to be cut off or interrupted.
The entire interview is very informative. Good job, BBC, even if your host failed to show appropriate respect to President Ali.
