Deism on the other hand is simply the belief in a creator.

Believing in God is not a religious stance it is a deist stance.

Most modern day atheists are more agnostic and just say the burden of proof is not on them so , to say atheists are not rational would have to depend on the definition of atheism .

The most obnoxious thing I find in these debates about the existence of god is the notion about what god are we talking about? It's always implied its the judeo christian one but, there are a thousands of conceptions of god(s) and there is no reason to elevate that particular one above the others like, somehow its more real.

Rationality is subjective people...

I don't think it's rational to believe that there is a being greater than ourselves who created us, and loves us, but yet allows such terrible things to happen. It's like those parents who don't warn their kids about the stove being hot...or even remind them after they've touched it.

And I guess some people feel that believing in nothing is irrational as well...There's strong cases for both sides, so I'll just sum this down to the arguments that make the cases moot as far as I know.

Theist: It is better to believe, and receive an eternal reward in Heaven; than to not believe and receive punishment instead.

Atheist: If God exists, he surely would not punish someone who led a just and moral life simply because they did not believe in his existence.
