Attention all Latinos in the USA

Not participating is counter-productive and it's biting off your nose to spite your face. I don't see how it accomplishes anything they want.

Immigrants have been excluded from the president's health care reform.

Actually I thought legal immigrants were included in health reform and only illegal aliens were excluded.

Co-operating in the boycott would only limit their visibility and the recognition of their needs in government programs and appropriations.

"Immigrants have been excluded from the president's health care reform."

Does this refer to the peope who are here illegally and who have NO right to be here? The United States, or any other country for that matter, cannot afford to clothe, feed educate, and care for every single person in the world who needs it. If anyone feels that illegal aliens should have health care then let them pay for it. I don't sneak into a movie theater without paying and then expect to get free soda and popcorn.

Maybe Mexicans should fix their own country before they come to the United States to start demanding their rights.

to say it is counterproductive is an understatement.

Organizers of the boycott are confident the government won't get even close to an accurate count, sending a message that the Latino community can no longer be ignored.
Seriously? Oxymoron?
There is a difference between an Illegal Immigrant and a Legal Immigrant obviously the activist do not see it as so.

No! Latinos, please don't boycott the census! I want to know where the greatest concentration of Latinos is, so that I'll know which state I should move to. :p

Of course, Texas is something like heaven in that respect. :p

excuse me? i was born in this country. This is just as much my country as it is your country. I pay taxes just like you do. There is nothing the distinguishes you from me.

health care reform isn't about citizenship (at least not the way it is defined in the US) but about humanity. everyone, regardless of status should have access to the best health care possible. But that's not the point of this thread...

Back on track, while I understand the concerns of this splinter Latin@ group, it is incredibly counterproductive to ask people not to be counted. Sadly, if we were fewer, at lot of racists anti-immigrant groups would win. instead, we need to all be counted and taken into consideration.

I don't understand the premise for this bizarre boycott...

NOR do I understand the willful neglect by our politicians when it comes to RECOGNIZING our hispanic communities...

Make it EASIER for them to BECOME legal -- and I suspect that they WOULD!!!

MOST of us -- either directly or indirectly -- came here from somewhere else...

:confused::confused::confused:

I was understanding your view point, maybe not agreeing with it but understanding some of the validity in it until the last sentence.
Why did you self destruct like that?
Thank you that you did, though.
Stange how the typical rage goes towards the lower income struggling human just trying to better their life and the lives of the family by locating the best source of income they can get yet nothing is directed from the US employers both corporate or private citizens who hire them. What these employers are doing is the same thing only on a grand level. Trying to find the cheapest labor so they can provide the best income (greed) for their interest. But that is okay isn't it?
Its like nailing the junkie on the corner and they pull jail time while the dealer reins free and is making the big bucks. The average Joe bitches about the low end wage (junkie) earner while the business/private citizen hiring (dealer) are free to continue.
Misplaced rage, because the dealer is also ripping off the whiners bitching about illegal labor, most are nearly if not in the same income brackets. Certainly not the wealthy.

Why hire a licensed, bonded, skilled arborist to trim or cut trees on your property when you can hire a illegal immigrant or a lot less?
Why hire a $13.00 a hr to a American guy to cut chicken parts at the Tyson Chicken plant in stump town Arkansas when you can hire a illegal immigrant for $7.85 a hr?
It is your neighbor and business that are causing this to propel but lets get mad at those just trying to make a buck, for them its wrong.

I am not in favor of illegal immigration but I get the problem and understand the typical outrage is directed at the wrong source. Laws are on the books to bust your neighbor and business that are hiring under the table labor.

Countries need to deport foreigners who break the law to get there. They do not need to let them work under the table and then give them subsidised government services that honest citizens and immigrants pay for through their taxes.

So if people don't want to respond to a census, they only make their own immediate neighbourhood worse off. Let them.
