i DON'T THINK a COMPANY can be racist - they can only be prejudiced..
and Walmart is a whole lot LESS prejudiced than CRACKER BARRELL - who trained their employees as to where to seat whites/vs./ blacks !! and I'm not talking about 1965 !
I can't go into a Walmart without seeing employees of at least 5 different national origins -- and in my store - a very very flamboyant gay man.
so - break it up folks - there's nothing to see here !!

My guess is that the 16-year-old was with a group of friends. They were probably carousing around Wal-Mart when he picked up the phone and made his little announcement, all in fun, maybe on a dare - a stupid joke among friends. They probably walked out, amused at the looks on customers' faces, and went home laughing about it.
But when media attention began spreading, I'm guessing that one of his friends must have said something to someone, perhaps at the dinner table, and that's probably how he was found out.
Everyone has done at least one or two silly, stupid spur-of-the-moment things without thinking about the consequences, and certainly not thinking that it would be talked about world-wide via the internet.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but if I were in the store at the time...my first thought would have been okay...who the hell is playing around on the PA system?
I would have laughed it off and went on about my shopping.
It's so dumb and random, it would have HAD to have been a joke.
That's the sentiment that I got from "black" employees at the Walmart that I frequent.
In fact one of them actually called me a "nigger" and told me that I needed to leave the store.
I got up in his shit and told him, "That's the nicest thing that anyone has said about me all week!"
Yep, and they're going to crucify him, and ruin his adult life.

It would still be just as funny to me if someone got on the PA system at my local Walmart and said, "Attention Walmart Customers, all White Trash need to leave the store now!"

Even some one announcing over the PA system "inmigración" would have emptied out 2/3rds of my local Walmart without another word spoken.

Taking an idiot to task for inappropriately using a store's intercom system to make racist jokes is not a matter of PC, it is plain wrong. Besides, jokes are never universally taken, so there shouldn't be any surprise if many people are upset by this idiot's behaviour, just because racist jokes tickle you, doesn't mean it does to others.

This was clearly an over reaction by the government, yet again. It was a stupid comment by a 16 year old kid.
It certainly doesn't rise to the level of a crime, because there was no "intimidation" as has been suggested. Intimidation would include some sort of a consequence to black people for not leaving the store.
The kids father should put his boot up the kids backside for being stupid and that should be that.
It just irks me to see valuable resources being wasted on a cluster fuck such as this.

It's really easy to laugh this off and say "what a dumb, humorless society we've become" but to lots of people in the group targeted by the "joke" it's not at all funny, it's a form of bias intimidation. If someone had said "all the homosexuals get out" or some other class of people there'd still be anger, just from different quarters.
This was stupid. And 16 year olds are to be expected to be stupid. You can't fault the store. You probably shouldn't overreact and actually charge the kid with something. But arrest him? Sure. Scare him. He's an idiot.

But I'm getting pretty fucking sick and tired of people defending the right of 16 year old kids to act 'stupid'. Left to get away with it, if everyone thinks it was just a big harmless joke at the expense of any target group and I guarantee it isn't long before it becomes the norm for behaviour.
