Aussies - what do you think of Julia Gillard?

What's so wrong with Tony Abbott? Also, the only way that there will ever be gay marriage is if the Greens get government. They kind of do now, which is why we're getting this useless and redundant carbon tax, for which she has NO mandate. The Greens are complete fruit loops.

Julia Gillard is getting squeezed by the independents and Greens (which has just one seat in the lower house and the balance of power in the upper house). It's ironic how Tony Abbott talks about Julia not having a mandate from the electorate. He seems to have forgotten how Johnny Howard rammed through the extreme industrial relations reforms after the 2004 election. People didn't vote to have their workplace rights taken away.

Either way no matter who's in power, we're screwed....it's always a case of the lesser of two evils.

He didn't say "There will be no work choices under the government I lead", though, did he?

This whole idea of 'Mandates' is relatively new, I think. And it's somewhat fallacious, just as is the belief that we vote in a Prime Minister. No government was ever bound to uphold its pre-election propoganda, and to imagine that everything proposed will make it through opposition is a little naive. And since when did Australians ever vote in a Prime Minister??? Next thing there'll be rumours we're choosing a Treasurer, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Education, Minister for... WTF?

I have acknowledged Gillard isn't the best we've had, but I do wonder if 1/ We have forgotten the Prime Minister is PART of a Government, not a dictator, and 2/ There are other elements to the Lower and Upper Houses who do actively challenge and block. Gillard is clearly not alone on this stage. 3/ Why do we have to refer to females as bitches?

4/ When Liberal was voted back into power in WA, so many people who are now complaining about increased taxes (far greater than the Mining Taxes brought by Gillard's Labor Party, BTW) were thrilled beyond measure. Now electricity is several times what it once cost, the miners are preparing to mine Uranium again, the Chinese are buying up big time, fragile eco-systems are being sacrificed for short-term economic gain (for a select group), none of the promised benefits for Education or Health Care have materialised, adn Gays and Lesbians are still second class citizens. Police funding has decreased (meaning greater stress levels and less education and development training) and the Dept. of Infrastructure wants to build a major highway extension through the middle of delicate wetlands in the Southern suburbs. The Treasurer Troy Buswell had to be replaced after SNIFFING THE CHAIR OF A FEMALE PARLIAMENTARIAN AND HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH A WOMAN FROM THE GREENS PARTY(!!!) and so now we are economising with Christian Porter being expected to be both Treasurer and Attorney General... Oh yes, the Liberals do such a great job. And it's not like I need to single out this particular Liberal Government: Every Liberal Gov. has shown itself to care more about facilitating the immediate growth of personal wealth of it's party members and business leaders to the detriment of those who are at the coal face than it has shown itself to care about 'Just Governance.'

None of them is interested in (and I have to agree that no party fits the bill all that well) developing a country that is egalitarian, modern, clean, inclusive, healthy, well educated, kind, wise and inspired. At least Gillard isn't nearly so right wing as Abbott shows himself to be. It also isn't lost on me that that Catholic (and don't kid yourself that he doesn't hold his Roman Catholicism up to guide his path when taking decisions such as his stance on abortion and gay rights! He's on the record multiple times!) Liberal is one of the most outspoken opportunistic politicians we have on the books right now. He is happy to trade on the public's general ignorance to win cheap votes and take this country into redneck territory if it means getting a Prime Ministerial job out of it - or any front bencher position. The crap he spouts regarding various community groups sickens me.

I didn't mind Ruddy, I find it an insult to the Australians that did vote for Rudd to end up with Gillard. There is one thing I am thankful for at least... she isn't Clover Moore.

… Clover Moore.

an egomaniac with so much rate-money drawn from the nation's most expensive real estate that the woman can't think of enough loopy ways to spend it. At least the gays, "artists" and all those landscapers are doing OK

He is Mr No to everything.
He oppose everything.

The whole Party is a mess. It isn't necessarily her fault, she can only operate as well as those on the bench with her. Unless, of course, she goes with the Rudd-style dictator approach...

As others have said, as sad as it is, Labor is still a better option than the Libs. Imagine having Abbott as PM?!
