Wow i am watching GLEE and during commercial they premiered the trailer for this new movie AVATAR and i was floored.

When a trailer can win Best Picture you know the movie is going to be spectacular.

I felt the same way about the trailer for Benjamin Button last year and it went on to get a nominated for Best Picture.

Even though Avatar has CGI animated characters the story looks so powerful and the cinematography breath taking.

I am going to check if the trailer is on youtube

______________5 minutes later..yes its on youtube

I don't know, I haven't been impressed with the previews. I've been thinking "Waterworld" for some reason.

Well it looked EPIC to me.

December 18th i know where i will be.

Hmm. This looks more like it has Summer blockbuster written all over it than a winter release.

Anyway though, it doesn't look bad to me but it's not something that makes me think "I MUST go see this". More like, "If I can find the time I guess I'll see it...".

I saw the preview a while ago and although it looks awsome it just looks like any other CGI movie but with more detail. I really wanna know what he spent 10 years doing to make this film so amazing...only time will tell

Was impressed by the 1st trailer, was not impressed by the 2nd.

To win Best Picture, a film needs to be more than a spectacle. It should have a great story, good dialogue and be really well acted. Cant see this having any of those qualities.

There is no way this movie will earn back what was spent to make it...$500 million total. It looks interesting, but no way this will even get nominated for Best Picture, even now that they extended the nominees to 10.

Does anyone else find it funny that this movies is about Marines fighting the Navy, I mean Na'vi?

The trailer looks really intriguing. The fact that its James Cameron's return to directing is enough to get me to see it.

Well, supposedly the reason they extended to 10 was to get some acknowledgment for box-office smashes that are too commercial for the Oscar voters (like Dark Knight last year). Certainly Avatar is a prime candidate after all the money they [STRIKE]dumped [/STRIKE]spent on it.

I hate it already, and I haven't even seen the trailer. But I'm sure it will be at least as big a smash as The Abyss...

in the trailer the idea is interesting,
until they talk about politics ... its a turn off.

Wow the critics here are hard core

First of all I thought this was about that tv show the last air bender.

Second, that movie looks amazing, the effects, the story and looks like they got a really hot cast.

So far the movie gives me the impression of being about a planet full of native smurfs.

$500-Million?.....Wow...James Cameron is a "King" but the trailer for this flick does not win me over...Too bad he didnt go after Will Smith for the lead...Will's name alone would have raked in $100-million-plus(in the states alone)....I'll see it when it opens...

eh....so far its failed to impress me (though I find the red-faced drill sarge marine dude pretty hot)

and it doesn't help that when I think of Avatar, I associate it closer to Avatar: the Last Airbender (and that this Avatar movie is the reason they can't use the full title for the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie)

Of course this movie will get a nomination for best picture. Whether it gets the oscar or not will remain to be seen. Precious has been gaining momentum as "the" winner and a lot of that is based on hype alone. I'm going to see both and make my own mind up.

On another note, Avatar: The Last Airbender was a great series and I for one am looking forward to the film. Hopefully M. Night Shyalaman doesn't ruin it.
