I'm not. Most studies have shown it to be somewhere between 5.5-6.0

Yup.

The only "surprise" comes from the fact that we're all so used to hearing/seeing larger than average presented as normal that a western guy (particularly a gay guy) is going to have an inflated idea of what's average.

You *almost never* hear *anyone* on the net, barring fettish areas for micropenis and stuff, say they're under 6... even though, medical-average speaking, about half of guys should be.

Pornography of course is always going to heavily favor larger than average guys and larger than average guys are the most likely to exhibit themselves either in amatuer or professional settings too, further inflating the perception of normal.
