So, I paid attention the words and holy cow it really sounded like date rape. At on point, the woman even asked the man "what did you put in my drink?"

It's not about date rape. It was 'naughty' for the 50s, but it wasn't date rape. And the line you quoted is misleading. Here are the actual lyrics:

I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry
Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some records on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink? - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no - Mind if I move in closer?
At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride?
I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out
Ah, but it's cold outside

I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your coat - It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand - Your eyes are like starlight now
But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me?
There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Think of my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay - Get over that hold out
Ah, but it's cold outside
Oh, baby it's cold outside
Oh, baby it's cold outside

Lol it is it is hahahaha, K & P did a skit about it hahahahahahaah.

Lots of people say it is, and one can certainly read it that way. But "what's in this drink" could just as easily be a reference to "what kind of cocktail did you serve me?" As gs suggested, it's simply a playful innuendo song. You'll note that despite the woman's insistence that she "really can't stay"...she requests another drink, and says "I ought to say no no no...at least I'll say that I tried". I think they call that "token resistance". :)

Good version:

I like old songs about crime, bad ones. Nick Cave's update on antique Murder Ballads is great.

(Did I just post something with KM in it? Never say never....)

I think the lyrics are clever the way they have two people dialoguing simultaneously and telling a story.

You don't hear lyrics like that anymore. :(

I was shocked when I heard that Carole King had written "He Hit Me (and it felt like a kiss)"...can you guess what that is about?

...and then the first time I heard Carly Simon singing "Slave" I was in Taipei and I thought I had misunderstood what she was saying..but it was what I thought it was...Damn.....

Listening for your footsteps
Just waiting like a fool
Burning with a fever
Only you can cool

The clock beside my pillow
Has ticked away the night
Like a heartbeat mocking me
Until the light

Gotta stop these thoughts about you
Gotta learn to live without you
Gotta find some freedom for this weary slave
'Cause I'm hungry for you
And I'm longing for you
And I'm burning for you

I worship your opinions
I imitate your ways
I try to make you grace me
With a word of praise

However much I tell myself
That I'm strong and free and brave
I'm just another woman
Raised to be a slave

Slave, nothing but a slave
Mind of a slave
Body of a slave

I find I gave away the soul
That I wanted you to save
I'm just another woman
Raised to be a slave

hungry for you
And longing for you
Burning for you
And I'm longing for you
burning for you
And I'm yearning for you
Longing for you

LOL!! I know it as a Christmas song!! Would be funny if it was about rape LOL

It's about the typical horny male grovelling for some nookie, and the woman playing just coy enough to keep him interested.

It's about Phil Spector trying to get out of his contract. The second and final step:

Back in the day, if a woman wanted to bang a guy's brains out, she was still expected to blame her behaviour on some pretext like a very strong drink.

Crash by Dave Matthews is about a teenage boy as a "peeping Tom".

Good Riddance [Time of Your Life] by Green Day is actually a big "Fuck You" to life. Note which part of the song title is in brackets.

Mr. Jones by the Counting Crows is about his penis.

So funny how people will sing along to stuff and not have the foggiest clue what the song is about.

^ I don't think ANYONE cares about lyrics anymore.

I've heard that 'I'll be watching you' by The Police is about an obsessive, controlling "peeping Tom" and that 'Working Class Man' is sung by a billionaire.

If you have a bad break up and want to spit nails...Marianne Faithful has alot to say.....

When I stole a twig from our little nest
And gave it to a bird with nothing in her beak,
I had my balls and my brains put into a vice
And twisted around for a whole fucking week.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you let that trash
Get a hold of your cock, get stoned on my hash ?

Why'd ya do it she said, why'd you let her suck your cock ?
Oh, do me a favour, don't put me in the dark.
Why'd ya do it, she said, they're mine all your jewels,
You just tied me to the mast of the ship of fools.

Why'd ya do it, she said, when you know it makes me sore,
'Cause she had cobwebs up her fanny and I believe in giving to the poor.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you spit on my snatch ?
Are we out of love now, is this just a bad patch ?

Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did ?
You drove my ego to a really bad skid.

Why'd you do it, she said, ain't nothing to laugh,
You just tore all our kisses right in half!

Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd ya do what you did,
Betray my little oyster for such a low bitch.

Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did ?
You drove my ego to a really bad skid.

Why'd ya do it, she screamed, after all we've said
Every time I see your dick I see her cunt in my bed.

The whole room was swirling,
Her lips were still curling.

Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd ya do it, she said,
Why'd you do what you did ?

Oh, big grey mother, I love you forever
With your barbed wire pussy and your good and bad weather.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did ...

Ah, I feel better now.
