I don't know why but I am fascinated by that painting. The face of the screamer and the coloring of the background just blow me away.

That is good news about the recovery. They seem to think it is real, I hope so. It is one of my favorites.

The article on Excite said that it was one of a series. I don't much about art, but I need to check that out.
"The Scream" and "Madonna" were part of the artist's "Frieze of Life" series, focusing on sickness, death, anxiety and love.

Certainly the point about projecting oneself into the painting is correct, but I also think that its uniqueness helps make it so fascinating. There's nothing like it in the history of art.

It's always been my understanding that "The Scream" was an expression of inner emotional turmoil. Anxiety, panic attack, feeling trapped in the experience of that. It's like the screamer is outside in this open space and yet isn't seen or heard as he also exists only within.

That's been my (amateurish) understanding as well. I also pick up a bit of isolation, alienation and indifference, perhaps a result of the industrial age and the conformity that mass production and slaving away on assembly lines was beginning to bring to the world. I say that because somehow the lines and colors bring to mind mechanization. I dunno why.

Thanks for the good news! (!):gogirl:..|(*8*):=D:

...and, just to celebrate: :sex:*|*:bj:

I too am a "Scream" fan!!!

I am sooo happy Norway got it's "national treasure" back....

I wonder if "Madonna" the painting that was also taken at the same time as the Scream was, was recovered also???

I hope so!

I really, really felt bad when the Scream was stolen; and now I can rest easy knowing it will now be back in Norway's Gallery for ALL to see and observe for all time!(*8*) (*8*)

I just read this article and I'm so happy. I love both of those paintings (the Scream & Madonna). I'm glad they caught the guys, but I wish they could give more details on what minor damage may have occured.

Cocktales: "'The Scream' and 'Madonna' are now in police possession," police chief Iver Stensrud told a news conference.

I think its a wonderful painting. The swarthy, warm colours remind me of the post-impressionist works of van Gogh. I'm glad its back.
