It's gonna be a helluva bad fall around here. My local schools are doing an 'every other day and alternate Friday' model. It's gonna be terrible, and I expect the whole thing to be scuttled by sometime in October.
The anti-mask crowd ('It violates my rights;' 'I have a medical condition;' 'The whole thing is fake;' blah blah blah) is running around blissfully unaware they're spreading the virus and it is getting worse every day as folks are becoming 'fatigued' with the whole thing.
My State issued a mandatory mask order (finally, Jared!) a couple of weeks ago and the numbers, while not out of control, are slowly but surely creeping up.
I work in a large retail environment. We have several large signs up, every single employee wears a mask AND gloves all day long. We offer free masks if customers don't have one. We generally limit customers to less than 50% capacity, and this time of year it isn't a problem. At least once a day, someone comes in without a mask and refuses to wear one.
How do we know that person isn't the 1 in 500 infectious persons in the state RIGHT NOW? We certainly can't tell, and neither can the asymptomatic customer.
And IF you truly cannot wear a mask because of some sort of medical condition, I get it, and I'm sorry you're not well, but why in the heck are you out and about putting yourself at risk? If you have COPD this thing has a pretty high fatality rate.
I'm the guy who has to respond to other customers and my employee's complaints that someone isn't wearing a mask. Daily I have to politely, yet firmly, offer a complimentary mask, and daily someone yells at me that I'm violating their rights. Do they think I enjoy getting screamed at every day? I'm just trying to protect my staff as best as possible from catching this thing and taking it home to their families. I'm really not looking forward to November.
Thank you very much. Rant over. I feel a little better.
