Well one award ceremony guaranteed of happening this year is the BAFTAs.

Thanks for the link. American reportage has been very spotty and I hadn't yet had a chance to visit their website.

Most of the noms are duplicates of what the entertainment press here are predicting for the Oscars.

Surprised Sweeny Todd was shut out of the main awards.

Most folks here expect Depp to be nominated for an Oscar.

Atonement got some very harsh reviews here. People are wondering whether or not it'll get an Oscar nod. It wasn't nominated for a Golden Globe.

Atonement was nominated for a few Golden Globes, and won Best Drama. It will get a nod.

But I hope Sweeney Todd gets nominated and wins Best Picture.

^^My bad. I didn't watch the Golden Globe "news conference", and I thought Entertaiment Weekly said it hadn't been nominated in it's recent Oscar prediction issue.

I hope Sweeny Todd is nominated for an Oscar too, but the "experts" think its chances are poor because so many good dramas were released at year's end.

There Will Be Blood seems to be the front runner.

Atonement will most likely get the most Oscar noms than any other movie this year, for sure. Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actress (that little girl was AMAZING!), Director, all the technical nominations............

I hope Vanessa Redgrave gets nominated as well. Even though her part was small, the scene she was in made the movie for me.

The BAFTAs are a waste of time. They are entirely about nominating as many British films/actors as they can in the hope that they can influence the Oscar nominations!

And how the hell can anyone say that the Bourne Ultimatum is a British film??? Funded by Americans, Produced by Americans, Screenplay by an American, Based on a book by an American, Starring an American....
