Pretty funny.:-) Baltimore is 3 hrs north of me next time I go there will have to listen more carefully to the locals.

You betta represent!
I'm not from Baltimore, but might as well be. My mom's bf's from there, and I pass through there pretty often when not at college. (My college is right of Baltimore Ave, so that's gotta count for something as well)
Haven't been to Townson in awhile though, or near the wuhter.
Wuhter
A chemical by product of an Arrhenius acid-base neutralization reaction
Baltimore has good seafood because it's near the wuhter.
That might be just me though, but a Baltimorean on my hall said that before.

^ I don't stalk...my employees do that for me. :rotflmao:

Whew, guess you don't know then. It would've been a matter of time. Ah, your ignorance is my bliss.
You have a habit of making seemingly unrelated posts that later on seem eerily related.
Will you teach me how to do that if I work for you? You can pay me in kissy emoticons. I've got a lot of stalking you from a month back on my CV; that's gotta at least get me in the door.
OK, back to subject:
Do you think there's a difference between Black and White Bmore speak? It seems like they blend, but there's enough ghettification for a language divide to form.

Oh...
Has the stalker become the stalked? You didn't know that... no... there's no way.
If you're stalking me, which would be an improbable honor, you're very subtle.
Love you.
wow, fail.
BTW, jockboy. U = hotness.
That means a lot coming from me b/c I usually don't go for skinny, jock, or short-haired guys.
What part of Southern MD? It's like a different state down there.

Leonardtown...
My friend got me a job in Baltimore (I'm originally from NJ opposite of Philly) and then was immediately transferred to Leonardtown. To hear him tell it, there are a bunch of inbred uneducated hicks there. He hates it. When I visit all the people seem completely wonderful.
Regarding the Baltimore accent...I've been living near the harbor for three years and have never heard any of it.

Wait one moment! Isn't it Balamer?

I have cousins who I adore in Rosedale. He worked for years at Essex Community College.

If you want to heart the accent and eat well while doing so, follow the link: www.cafehon.com

I eat at Cafe Hon all the time.

Now I'm slightly jealous. But I still won't give away my invitation to my cousins' picnics, where we pig out cracking cooked and seasoned crabs on newspaper-covered picnic tables in the back yard. I don't know any other way to eat crabs, and frankly, I don't need to.

Forbidden fruits, such as this Baltimore "dish?"

....actually I quite enjoy them!oops!

My favorite Baltimore memory: the officers of the law are the Poeleece

When I did my training in mental health interning, I was at Spring Grove State Hospital where I was greeted daily by five men who thought they were Jesus and two women who vied with each other about who was the real Virgin Mary. It was an interesting time.

In those days I offered to wash the outside of the windows of the home I was renting a room in, but the landlady who lived downstairs instructed me that was only done by black people. You probably can figure that one out. It was a very long time ago.

Shep+

I just went to a funeral in Bmore today.
It was a black service so...
But I heard the following new words:
froo
A quantitatively diminishing adjective.
There are froo posters on my threads as of late.

and...

brootiful
Aesthetically or spiritually attractive/pleasing
That is sad, because users like IGB and soulseeker made such brootiful posts.

This may just be black people stuff, but it happened in Bmore.
How "Southern" is it down there?

There are a lot of epentheses in Baltimorespeak among all communities of Baltimore.

Wow. I'm a ling major. That just gave you over 9,000 hotness points.
By is it Southern down there, btw, I didn't mean Southern/BAE hyper-rhoticization (that's usually syllable final anyway) I meant how culturally Southern is it down where you live?
Interesting... another aspect to Bmore speak...
Just for that linguistic hotness, I'm gonna go stalk your gallery (again).
*No creeper*

Ballemore must keep shut if they wanna go rut.

There is not enough Bawlmerese in my life anymore!

Hehehe. In reality I'm a lover of all science.

I'm glad we could have this little chat since ling is your interest :)

-Aww thanks. I enjoyed it too. What sciences are your faves?

There is a little element of southern drawl which is more noticeable in southern Maryland.

-Yeah, but they're not as racist (at least from the times I've been down there)

You don't suppose I posted my pix so others would see them do you?
:p
-Hmmm... I don't knoooow, "Strange things are afoot on the Internets"
Hope to bump into you more often on these forums, maybe real life if I ever get down there.

I hang out with the regulars in the Politics forum and post occasionally in HT.

In real life? I rarely entertain the prospect of mating my Internet life to the real one.

I suck at politics.
I hope by mating you didn't mean... I wasn't trying to go there... sorry, awks.
I was thinking regional meet if I was in the area. Do you not do those either? I have reservations myself.
Back to topic:
My mom's bf actually refuses a lot of Bmore-isms. He'll jokingly correct my mom when she says half those things you listen and Townson or wooder. You think Bmore-isms will last, or will they assimilate into Maryland or PA general dialects?
What got you interested in Bmore-isms since you said you're not from there, right?
What kinda science you like? I don't wanna blather on about ling just for me.

The Maryland "o" is an interesting vowel, sometimes a couple of syllables long, as in "Cum oo-uhn," meaning let's go.
