Banning Members from CE&P

One of the things that I've particularly enjoyed here is having friends from both sides of the aisle. Politics is just one of my favorite things, it's not my whole life.

I have made every effort to accomodate Chance1. In reality, I probably let him go on too long, just because I didn't the alternative - a forum ban.

The door remains open for trimming the forum ban into something more reasonable, all I need is a PM stating that he'll abide by the rules.

But when someone flat out tells me that they aren't going to do what I ask them to do, what real choice am I left with?

For better or worse you guys are stuck with me and Springboksfan for the time-being. And I have made concerted efforts to increase the mod team here in CE&P, particularly to show more diversity in philosophical thoughts. Offers have been made, but so far none have had the time to devote to being a mod here. I won't name names because that would be tacky, but some of our more prolific friends from the right have been asked to come onboard, and unfortunately they don't have the time.

I've never wanted to be the sole voice for this forum.

I think that we may have some wonderful news to report on that subject soon. I've recommended two excellent people for mod, both carry a ton of respect in this forum.

And one final note, can we all just put aside the "Alfie-bashing" for a little while? We've gone on record as saying that he's our most warned and banned poster. I would certainly hope that no one would seriously believe that he, or anyone else, receives preferential treatment here.

The question then remains. Why is it he is still here for everyone to report repeatedly. I don't mind a single persons idea or opinion but every thread he is apart of eventually leads to him placing insults in the form of vague "opinions".

Indeed Alfie quotes rule #2 yet things that offend him earn others warnings. If the atmosphere here is so "thick skinned" why are insult warnings even bothered with from the mods.

I am pleased to report that Chance1 and I have chatted and he'll be joining us again on Monday. I hope that everyone will welcome him back at that time.

I'm sure that I don't have to remind anyone on just how many people have had these little "vacations" from the board, so I would caution people to be nice.

When all is said and done we have a new day, each day, to do things differently. Having a "do-over" is a great thing.

I trust that everyone gets what I'm putting out there ...

There's a lot of personal attacks all of the time from both sides and I just tire of that quickly. It's hard esp in politics to keep it to a grown up discussion about the issues... I find that even in real life. But let's try, shall we fellas? We need more of you...in another thread right now,liberals are snipping about moderators and alleged sensitivity toi conservatives by pulling a couple of threads for review.The message isn't getting through,the personal snideness...toward the mods which is inexcusable because this forum has excellent,professional mods.....as well as to those who don't agree with the liberal politically acceptable views,has got to stop.No insinuations,no veiled mocking or attacks...if chance or others in the center or conservative spectrum fall out of line again,whatever consequences of their actions will be deserved.No less from the left...though you dominate the discussion(and you clearly do),the viewpoints of others,even though you may not agree,are worth consideration and respect....as well as criticism and challenge.

We don't have to agree,but no viewpoint or perspective...save something that voiolates the code of conduct,is more or less worthy of discussion,finding of common ground,and sometimes respectful,civil disagreement.That goes for everyone....right,center,or left.I'm just tired of people NOT getting the message,and think we all...especially Snapcat and Springboksfan,deserve better.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything Sausage said above. Diversity of opinion is healthy. Personal attacks from one person on another must be avoided at all costs--and can be if people would re-read their post before they hit send--and when they occur they should be met with the same response not just from the mods, but from all those who visit this forum.

I know that I'm special...just like everyone else...but I try to think ten times and speak only once.

I learn an awful lot about myself and my views here in CE&P, and I also learn a lot about other members here. Not so much about "what" they post, but also "how" they post.

Sometimes I get more annoyed about how a member posts, than I do in what they post.

I'm guilty of going off on other members, making a post "personal" but I try less and less to do such things.

Often times I've discovered that a PM goes a lot further than anything that I could say out in the open.

I'm glad this recent banning incident came to light.

It gives all of us an opportunity to share some truth.

I f gentlemen such as Stevenavy and Centex concur with me,I am in great company. I don't expect to get those more liberal than myself to only see my line of reasoning,and I hope they don't expect me to think them infallible.There are quite a few people here I would not agree on many issues,but I value them,deeply respect them,and listen to here where they are coming from.And I wouldn't make any political disagreements with them conterntious and personally confrontational,or think their beliefs show flaws and defects in their honor,character,and humanity.

We have an opportunity here to make this place the best gay political commentary forum anywhere...with the presence of a strong,healthy diversity of perspectives.Let's always work to make this a place where we can be proud of what we stand for and accomplish in discussing and probing the various issues we face.Let us set the bar as high as we possibly can for ourselves.Maybe I'm a wishful thinker who cannot realize how naive I may be in how the world works,but I choose to be positive and forward looking....and believe we actually can discuss policies in an engaging,informative,enlightening manner that doesn't have people getting sent to the corner for time out!

It almost sounds like a love in - everyone on CE&P likes each other ATM.

'Making fun' aside - I'm really happy to see so many posts giving credit to the efforts of Snaps and SBF - they really have been doing a great job in this forum - and it's the last place I would want to have to moderate (I may offer the occasional opinion in the Mod Forum - but this is a VERY volatile area). Good also to see the (very hard working) Goula getting involved too.

I also hope that one of the "further right" people Snaps referred to does wind up contributing as a Mod - it would help ensure a better (perceived) balance here.

Kudos to all who are giving "credit where credit is due".

And my offer still stands (that was months ago, why still be bitter?). Especially when you just lied and called me an "avid poster", when I most certainly do not post all that often. And that's mainly because I get sick of reading posts by gay community leg-humpers who are gay yet begging to be thrown in Auschwitz (of course not if they can't take the entire community with them). These particular people were born AFTER stuff like the Stonewall riots (including myself), and don't appreciate the hard work people have done over the past few decades to even let you refer to yourself as gay without getting your ass kicked or killed. All these particular people are doing is trying to bring it back to those days, and in my opinion, should be destroyed if they're that suicidal (starting with Jeff Gannon). Those people need to just join the likes of Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, etc and leave the gay community entirely - hit the ex-gay reparative therapy or something. Or better yet, move and start their own self-destructive gay community in Alabama. That way, if they don't kill themselves from their own self-hatred, the inbreds will - either way, everything would work out. Like that one song from the 80's went..."wouldn't it be good".

I've had a number of e-mails from moderate and liberal JUB'ers who said they would like to post in CE&P but they are turned off by the anger and hostility of the right wing homocons. And, really, what can I tell them, that someday the extremists will act civil? I fear we will lose more potential posters due to the ongoing uncouth and coarse rantings of the right. That's a shame. Three former posters wrote to say they had had it with the endless attacks by the usual suspects.

I just had to write to address the absurd on its face depiction of us not on the left as the source of the problem ....incivility of any sort from any side is.Did Chance make things personal?He did,and APPROPRIATELY received a forum ban.Partly for his taunting and poersonal attacks on Alfie and others,partly for his unacceptable actionsd questioning Snapcat.He has apologized and will have his forum ban lifted Monday,as Snapcat promised a shortening of the ban if apologies and regret for those actions were made.We start anew then....let nobody blow it.Chance knows the ramifications he will justly deserve if he slips...hope EVERYONE does the same for themselves.And stop this nonsense of how the conservatives here cause this contentious and difficult atmosphere ALONE.
