Here in Wisconsin it's 2 AM during the week, 2:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. All night on New Years.

As for buying, I think the statewide law is until Midnight, but in the Eau Claire city limits, it's 9 PM. I've made many trips after 9 PM to that store right outside city limits to get a case. And thank god you can still buy on Sundays...

It was generally 2am back home. I can't drink here, so I have no idea.

5AM, then it's off to after hours where a couple have 24 hour liquor license.

Count your blessings!

It used to be 1AM in Minnesota. :(

I was wondering about that... I've heard stories of people coming over to Wisconsin around 12:30-1:00 AM just to stay out later...

Guilty as charged. !oops!

I don't remember when it changed. I also remember when Wisconsin was still an 18 state and Minnesota was 21. Made for interesting evenings over the Stillwater bridge. The 'kids' thought if they stayed off the Interstate the cops wouldn't be watching.

Neighbourhood pubs close at 11 or midnight. Clubs stay open all night long until about 8 or 9am and some never shut their doors. There's also a couple that open at 6am, one can only imagine the people that start queuing at 5:50am to get in.

When the sun comes up you know you've had a good night, unless you're completely off your face then you probably have a day party to go to.

2:00 AM, and they'll sell you a drink up to that very time. ..|

By 2:30 they want you out the door.

Unlike our neighbor state, Washington.

There the bar clocks are set 15 minutes ahead of real time. It's called Bar Time.

At 1:30 (real time) they stop selling drinks.

At 1:45 (real time) they snatch drinks out of your hands.

At, or before, 2:00 the bar staff has kicked your ass onto the street.

And, yes, that's in Washington State, just another "liberal" paradise....

^Is bar time the law in WA?

We have bar time here, but it's only so the bar can start kicking the drunks who don't realize that it's only bar time out early. I've stayed in the bar up until 2:30 AM, 2:45 AM Bar time...

I guess I go to places where they're nice enough to sell me drinks til 1:55. Even though at 2, they do kick you out. CHUG CHUG CHUG! That's downtown Seattle, though...

Not the law. But I think bar owners are scared shitless of their State Alcohol Enforcement Nazis. (WLCB, Washington Liquor Control Board) Hence, to make sure they aren't a minute off in their timing, they adjust clocks.

What's weird is that one bar in Portland does the same thing. Must be some sort of throwback, because our OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission) is strict, but not that strict....

Most places in California have last call at 1:30am. Some places turn the lights on at that time, too, to get people to leave.

There are also some asian karaoke places that have separate rooms for individual groups. If they don't serve alchohol, they allow you to bring your own and they stay open until the last group leaves, or around 4am.

Addendum.

In Oregon, at 1:00AM, an hour before closing, you are not any longer allowed to buy shots, or martinis.

Strange things happen when government meddles in ordinary affairs.....

No shots or martinis? Makes no sense, because one beer is the equivalent to a shot, alcohol wise.

But I suppose, outside of Wisconsin, people don't drink beers as fast as shots.

I know.

A patron could down six or more beers in an hour, or nurse a martini the entire time.

Go figure.

You can still get a drink, here at that time, with hard alcohol. It just has to have mixer.

If everyone ordered Long Islands, that would prove how ineffective that is...

Colorado is 2 AM. You must be out the door by 2, hence last call is usually 1:30 or so depending on bar management.

Michigan is 2, but you must be out by 2:30. Except Christmas Eve (only!) which is 8:30 Last Call and Out by 9PM; Closed Christmas Day, reopen at 7AM December 26th.

The last Blue Law in Michigan. :(
