One would think there might be other more important reasons for making a move such as that. What if it turns out to be either a disappointment and or something you might not be able to deal with for any number of reasons? Then what do you do about living there??

San Francisco is a very expensive place to live in and I hope your job opportunities will allow you to live in the style you are used to. Have you visitied there before?

Odd, I would have thought the job situation and who and what people are like and other cultural aspects are involved before basing a move on baths and sex clubs. Where do real people fit into all of this besides the great sexually fantasies which can be and probably are so intriguing? I would have though the realities of reall people would have far more significance then plain old funcking does. I guess it is a matter of tastes, values, persections and wants and needs.

I guess it comes down to a question of one's values and priorities.and their feelings about themselves and who they are.

Not meant as a lecture - just a bunch of random thoughts, from the local village idiot who often seens things some what on the pessimistic side of things.

Well Patrick, as far as I know there are no bath houses in S F, the good fathers closed them to protect us from ourselfs. Of course the city had the fastest death rate from AIDS in the nation because of the outstanding care that was available here and because everyone came here for it.The closest bathhouse is in Oakland or in Berkeley. Other than that you have to go to Reno or San Jose. Used to love to go to all the bathhouses here but have yet to go to any of the local ones. Love Wes

SF Is pretty free sexually no matter what so even a street fair there can turn into a sexual adventure (hello, at the Folsom St Fair you can get naked and jerk off in the street). Please play safe and enjoy a city that is awesome for so many other things than just that. However I do have to agree with Croynan that if that's your only reason for going, it's a lousy one. Hopefully you've got a good job and a nice pad waiting and are just being commendably thorough in checking out your new town.

Yep, Dr. Silverman (then the Director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health) ordered the baths closed as a preventative measure in the fight against AIDS in the mid- to late 1980s. At the time, people didn't seem to catch onto the idea that "It's not where you do the act, but what the act entails." One of the biggest arguments against the closures was the fact that bath house owners and management were responsible for disseminating more safe-sex literature, information and condoms than the Health Department. ](*,)

^Yup. There are no bath houses in SF. There are sex clubs. You can check out Power Exchange and Blow Buddies on line. There are baths in San Jose (The WaterGarden) and Berkeley (The Steam Works).

Steamworks in Berkeley and the Watergarden in San Jose. Hope you have fun, yet have to be careful......

Even if you find one, I think one should keep away from probably one of the most filthiest and unholy places one could be in. There are so many gay guys there, you should just try to find a genuine connection with someone, so you won't have to roll in filth.

What a hoot...

What is it with the graverobbers out there digging up the mouldering remains of threads from over a year ago???? Or are they being resurrected because it is Easter?

This should be a regular feature... someone goes back into the vaults to blow the dust off a long forgotten thread and then everyone responds the OP as though they actually haven't found the answer to their original question in all the intervening months.

You could be talking about politics or the many of the organized fundamentalist or Catholic Churches...

At least Bathhouses are honest about what they are and what they're for.

I assume no-one (other than rareboy) has noticed that this is a thread which was started TWO YEARS AGO - and has just been resurrected?

Given that the OP hasn't made a post in more than 12 months, replies to his question might seem to be just a little....redundant?...
