Didn't want to open a can of worms. Remember when he had the investigation of cylon sympathisers that got out of hand in season one?

If helo didn't kill them, the cylons would have died as a race and the show would be over.

I didn't like how the base star exploded before they could find out more about the cylons/retrieve gear.

I think a lot of it has to do how he's come to look at Sharon/Athena and the aftermath of New Caprica. I'm sure there's going to be hell to pay for not investigating the issue somewhere down the line.

Good question Mike! I think they did it with their 'dying breath.' Obviously Sharon was compelled to join them when they gathered together. I don't know as yet whether she herself was involved.

Remember the moiraculous healing powers of her unborn baby,which saved President Roslin?(Also an intriguing stem-cell related situation).The baby is a key to the future of the relatoionship between humanity and the Cylons.

I thought Helo did a morally justifiable thing,and deep down,I think Adama agreed.To kill a race coldbloodedly is not a human or humane thing to do,making us no better than the Cylons who wiped most of humanity out.helo thought maybe the Cylons were capable of more than being cold,callous machines....like Boomer/Athena.

I doubt it was the Cylons or Athena that blew the basestar, I’d guess it was the Hybrid or the fact that the ship was breaking down and a critical system finally failed.

I like what Helo did, aside from the fact that if we had no Cylons, it would be a pretty boring show. If we had committed genocide against them we would have been just as bad as them, and would just have been continuing the cycle of bloodshed. And i too, think Adama agreed.

Personally, i thought Roslin's order to commit genocide was a bit out of character for her, especially with a grin on her face later on while talking about it. Occupation syndrome?

And I’m so pissed they didn't get the beacon. That could have held some valuable information.

But did anyone put this 2 and 2 together? The virus on the beacon (while not intentionally left) was a form of encephalitis that infected humans 3000 years ago right (and presumably anyone living with humans at that time)? And humans now have immunity to it. So, if it infects Cylons, and as 6 said, "all Cylons are made from the same genetic pool," then the DNA the Cylons sampled to make themselves had to have been from 3000 years ago.

Where am i going with this? There are 12 Cylon models. There are 12 Lords of Kobol in the Colonial Religion. We know from Athena, back when they were on Kobol searching for the tomb, that the Cylons don't believe the Colonial Gods are really Gods, and that the Cylons "know more about your gods than you do". What if after the Cylons left the Colonies 40 years ago, they found Kobol (which we know they did) AND the remains of the 12 Lords of Kobol, who or whatever they were? And what if the DNA the Cylons sampled to create themselves was from the 12 Lords of Kobol? That would explain why there are only 12 models; only 12 samples to choose from.

We also know from snippets here and there, that the Lords of Kobol (who lived among humans on Kobol) didn't always agree with each other. Some outright didn't like each other, and some were downright hostile to each other. And we see this again in the Greek Gods on which the Lords of Kobol are based. So all this squabbling we see going on within the Cylon ranks now, what if it's because of who they're based on? The same reasons the 12 Lords squabbled with each other is living on through them. And that's why they don't talk about the other 5 models.

It's a great theory and it certainly explains the dissension amongst the Cylon ranks. If your theory holds true, I think it would be deliciously ironic that the Cylons after all their bluster and bravado of being superior to the humans end up being just as flawed as we are.

I think Sharon blew it up. She had a weird look on her face when Apollo was glancing at her as it was exploding. And the Cylons were already prepared to die, as one of the Six's asked Baltar to kill her in the previous episode...so they would have blown it up themselves earlier on if they could have. They were probably too sick, so Sharon did it for them.

She's always been cold when the need arose. Like when she wanted to blast a living cylon out of an airlock, wanting to terminate Sharon's pregnancy etc. She's one of my favourite characters on the show.

Excellent theory on the 12 lords and 12 cylons... that might even fit in with the original show. in that the original organic cylons were extinct, so maybe the 12 lords were not human but a similar species and are now extinct and the cylons are all that's left. wonder where they came up with their "christian" type religion though...maybe it was something the 12 lords knew about.

Think about it. If the fleet found earth as it is today, or even a more primitive earth, wouldn't we revere these advanced peoples? Perhaps thru the generations come to know of them as gods?

Remember the cycle of time repeats, so a caravan of advanced people would have found an "earth" or a "Kobol" before, and wouldn't those advanced peoples seem like gods to those less advanced? Especially if they kept their true identity a secret.

And in-between, we have the Cylons finding Kobol, the remains of the 12 Lords, and the truth about the Cycle of time. And using the Lord’s DNA to create themselves, i.e. previous posts.

I doubt we'll ever see any aliens in BSG. It's not a show about aliens, it's about humanity and it's flaws. RDM has said he's not looking to make another Star Trek.
