Battlestar Galactica Season 3

Shows like this ought to be made the way Babylon 5 was -- the whole story scripted out, the writers and actors committed to it, and none of this wondering and hoping and wishing....

Does anyone know which song was playing at the end of the episode? "All along the watchtower" remix?

Does anyone know which song was playing at the end of the episode? "All along the watchtower" remix?

I was wondering that myself...

I have to say I loved the way Tigh composed himself at the end. He is nothing but highs and lows. At one point he will debase himself completely, then do something noble and then he's right back down again. There's no middle ground with him.

Edit: I just checked the BSG forums on Sci-Fi... so far no one has verified who it was that did the cover of Watchtower.

Oh,the Sopranos would take like a year and a half between seasons...this is nothing, just an annoyingly lengthy delay.I have absolute confidence that the 22-episode fourth season will be worth it and more..and that wise heads will prevail, and an additional fifth season would be the last if those responsible for the show think the storytelling has a limit how far it can be taken.

Starbuck has a destiny.....maybe she is being played, maybe she is a Cylon,or something else!Maybe she really believes that she has been led to Earth, and can show the human race the way,but she has a very big Cylon welcoming committee she has to explain....Has Gaius been misdirected, what nefarious puropse does Six and Gaius have for Hera playing out in the connected nightmares of Laura and Athena?

God,now Colonel Tigh,Sam,Chief Tyrol and Laura's chief aide are now aware of their being Cylons...what is it about the newly unmasked five(Starbuck either being the fifth or a shocking ruse with another destiny ) that separate them from the other models?Moral conscience,a closer affinity to humanity than was intended or expected? There is a LOT of story to explore..for instance,The Chief and Callie have a son that is now certainly identifiable as half cylon, and there seems to be no connection or interst to the other Cylons....certainly the Cylons don't like Tigh, and Sam fought hard to destroy them on New Caprica...and Tigh is the last person you'd expect, with his flaws still an honorable and courageous man who has a strong sense of honor and decency along with his sometimes crippling arrogance and self-doubt.This story probably does need five seasons to satiusfactorily resolve it...Farscape shoulkd have had its fifth season, let's hope the Sci-Fi Channel goes one more after this one,it's such an extraordinary show that has such a vast canvas it needs to explore itself as long as they can get great drama and humanity out of the situation.

I am really scratching my head over this episode. So the four are going nuts from a song. They all get together and decide that since they are the only ones hearing it, that they are cylons? So, what? Jimi Hendrix is a cylon? I think something else is going on here, not cylons.

Starbuck is back in her viper? It blew up!

The lawer put his cane down and walked away normally, no limp. Hmmm.

And what about the final scene with the pullout in space, revealing the galaxy, and then zooming in on earth.

We had to wait 6 or 7 months for season 3, now we have to wait almost a year? WTF! I want it now!!!

That was OMG the best episode of BSG to date!!! I mean how to you outdo Exodus PtII??? BUT THEY DID! :)

I'll admit though, I totally guessed Ty, Tyrol, Anders, and Aide Lady were Cylons by the end of part 1, the music was a dead giveaway. But what a giveaway! The song was obviously their trigger to realize their true origin. Gah, so many things fit together now, I’m surprised no one's posted them!!! The song is soooo important to this episode, the words I mean...

First of all, does anyone realize that Hera is not the only Human-Cylon hybrid??? The Chief and Cally's baby is a human-cylon hybrid obviously.

Remember when Dienna saw the final five earlier this season? She went up to one and said "You! Forgive me I had no idea". I thought she was talking to starbuck, but no, think about it. What did she (as a Cylon) have done to Ty!?? Plucked out his eye! Forgive me indeed!

Ok, and the fleet wide power outage, did anyone put together the fact that it happened at the exact moment the "four" on galactica realized WHO they really were!? And the power came back on at the exact moment they decided to frak it and be who they are and go back to work.

And Roslin, she felt it all coming as soon as they jumped into the nebula, is she the special "13th"??? :) 12 models, just like the 12 colonies, yes yes, but there was a 13th colony, could there be a 13th Cylon too?

"No reason to get excited,
The thief he kindly spoke.
There are many here among us,
feel that life is but a joke."

Remember what starbuck says to Lee after here reveal? Don't freak out, it really is me, it's going to be ok. ("No reason to get excited, The thief he kindly spoke."). I've been to Earth, I know where it is, I'm going to take us there ("There are many here among (Cylons) us, feel that life is but a joke.")

She's the thief in the song, and she's also the last of the final 5. The Leoban in here death vision, the one she said "you're not leoban" too, who replied "I never said I was" was God... The Cylon God, or whatever he is. I don't think he's JUST the Cylon God, he's more than that, whatever he is, but that was him talking to her. But I don't think you need to fret about here or the other 4 being Cylons, they're not like the others.

"Businessmen, they drink my wine,
plowmen dig my earth.
None of them along the line,
know what any of it is worth."

I think this is a dig that's meant to tell us the nature of the final 5, that they're not like the other Cylons. They're different. They "know". They're part of the big picture, not caught up in the petty "war" and hatred. "Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth," The other 7 Cylons, they do their thing, they work for us; "None of them along the line, know what any of it is worth," But they don't know the big picture, they don't see the whole truth. After all, they were made long before the first Cylon exodus, long before any of the other 7 were made.

Obviously, there's more to the relationship between human and Cylon than just hatred and War. Our destinies are intertwined in a deeper way. And a third force is shaping that destiny, be it the "Cylon God" or the Lords of Kobol, or something else we don't know yet.

And lastly, we now know for sure that Earth is real.

Best episode ever, the score was amazing, the effects were amazing, the acting was amazing... Battlestar Galactica is back in its truest form.

P.S.
About the long delay... It's time to switch from BSG mode to Stargate mode now (at least that's SciFi's thinking, sorry if you're not also a Stargate fan, heh). The latter halves of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis will air starting on April 13th, and will finish up on the second to last week in June.

There will then be a brief (thank the gods) hiatus from July through September. Then season 4 of Stargate Atlantis will premiere in October, and will air its first half from October through December. And after Christmas, BSG will begin its 4th season (No word yet on how the latter half of their seasons will play out... I.E. will BSG play straight thru or stagger its second half after the second half of Stargate Atlantis' 4th season). Also, keep in mind that a BSG direct-to-DVD movie will be released later this year, around the same time of Stargate Atlantis' 4th season premiere.

P.P.S.
It appears I may have been wrong about Starbuck being gone as a regular cast member... I think she may be back full time next season. I think the whole she's gone thing was a clever rouse.

I'm thinking the final Cylon is Starbuck. I can't see any other non retarded way to get around her viper going 'splodey in Maelstrom.

Plus there was always the whole "destiny" thing Leoben has been talking about for 2 seasons. Leoben claims to have talked to "God", and I also beleive that the Leoben Kara was talking to in her visions was the Cylon God.

Its obvious that the Final Five are different in some way to the Significant Seven, to the point where the Seven do not acknowledge the five in any way. I'm thinking that the final five are on the human's side, and always have been (especially if Tigh is one of them, and he fought in the original Cylon War).

I doubt that Battlestar will go beyond the fourth season. Sci-fi has never kept any of it's shows past 4 seasons (SG-1) doesn't count as it aired for 5 seasons on Showtime, and it wasn't ever a true sci-fi original. If they aren't going to go past 4 seasons, then it'd make way more sense to show us all the cylon models at this point. That way they can concentrate on showing us what the deal is with the final five and tell us what the deal is with the cylon God in the fourth season.

SG-1 aired for 5 seasons on SciFi bod.....

10 seasons minus 5 on showtime equals 5 on SciFi.

There is no law stating SciFi Doesn't keep shows past 4 seasons either... doesn't make sense for there to be. And like i said, SG-1 went for 5 on SciFi.

Ok, here's my random thought. Generally we worship our God or Gods as our divine creator. So if the final 5 are peaceful and worship their God as their creator, then the humans are their GOD. Just my two cents worth of opinion.

But, as I said, SG-1 is NOT a sci-fi original, Showtime/MGM came up with the idea, and sci-fi used it to their advantage when showtime ditched thier sci-fi night. No other show besides SG-1 ever ran for longer than 4 years on sci-fi.

Farscape - 4 years
Lexx - 3 years
First Wave - 3 years
Tripping the Rift - 2 seasons
Proof Positive - 1 season
Scare Tactics - 3 seasons

Amusingly, thats the only original programming they have ever had thats not new.
Eureka, and Dresden are still only one season each, though Eureka has been renewed for a second. BSG and Atlantis are going on 4, but Atlantis has death written all over it with all the changes they are making to the cast. So you want to be a superhero was pure trash, but thats renewed for a second season. The only show I think has any chance of running more than 4 years is Ghost Hunters, because it's a reality show, and it's actually one of their highest rated shows.

There might not be a law, but it's obvious when you actually look back at the history of the channel. They just don't keep shows past 4 years

You're being a drama queen about it you know?

First Wave sucked (the only reason it went past 1 season is because they were contracted for 3)
Proof Positive sucked
Tripping the rift sucked
And Lexx REALLY sucked

that's why those shows were canceled. 4 years has nothing to do with it, it's all about ratings. And for your information, the SciFi Channel had nothing (as in ZERO) to do with the creation of Atlantis for one, it's MGM's baby, SciFi is only the US distributer (and it doesn't have death written all over it, that's pure know-it-all-ism from people who whine and complain and condemn shows before they even watch them).

So in short, they idea that just because you think they don't keep shows past 4 years is garbage, like i said, they kept SG-1 for five (the "original series" line is bull crap, no show on the channel was made solely by SciFi). It's all about ratings, not years. Just because it hasn't happened that way before doesn't mean it can't or won't.

I get a bit miffed when nay-sayers come and start preaching the end of shows A. Before you know it's the end B. Don't give a show a chance and C. Don't have any real understanding and appriciation for what a show is supposed to be about.

P.S.
And i'm really getting tired of all this nay-saying about Atlantis' 4th season, especially since it's 6 months away and NO ONE knows for sure exactly what's going to happen and how characters are going to be worked in or out, or if they're even out. That's pre-judging, and it's rubbish, and all it's good for is spreading the attitude that Atlantis can't possibly survive which is the real threat to it's survival, not cast changes.

/rant

It's funny you accuse me of being a drama queen, but you're the one going on a rant. I know all about each and every one of those shows, I am a sci-fi fanatic. Such a fanatic that I'll usually watch any kind of of sci-fi. I watched all of Earth: Final Conflict happily, even though it was a retarded show. It's not all about ratings, because when farscape was cancelled, it's ratings were higher than what BSG's current ratings have dropped to. BSG is being kept because of the acclaim it's gotten from the press, it's ratings have been less than stellar for season 3, especially when you compare the ratings from season 1 and 2 (though 2 did still drop from season 1).

How can you say 4 years has nothing to do with it? The fact is that no other show has lasted monger than that on sci-fi, besides SG-1 (I'll go ahead and give you that since you're so butthurt over this). And how can you say sci-fi doesn't have anything to with any of theses shows, they fund most the production money.

Now, for some reason, you seem to think that I don't like BSG or SG-1. They are 2 of my favorite shows! In general I tend to hate sci-fi because they can't keep a good show running. I attribute this to poor scheduling and poor advertising. Easy and obvious example: When SG-1, Atlantis, and BSG all aired on the same night, the ratings were consistently higher for all three shows. They separated the shows, and each show took a decent hit in ratings. They do advertise BSG, but they barely advertised for SG-1 and Atlantis when this season started. And even now, they are barely advertising their return.

As far as BSG goes, you have to admit that the second half of this season has been pretty crappy. The stories were way too slow, and had little if anything to do with the general plot of the season. Sure a show has to have some stuff that doesn't belong to the major season arc, but man the stuff the BSG writers came up with was nothing short of droll. It didn't get decent until Maelstrom aired, took a little dip down with this lame Baltar trial, then the finale picked things up a good bit. Seeing as how they have 22 episodes for season 4, I really hope they get back to the nitty gritty and put out some decent stories for the majority of the season. What else would be better than they actually finish off the sotryline without watering it down. That way they can go out on a strong note, and not the way of Galactica 1980

Atlantis is a decent show, but It's leaving a lot to be desired. The Wraith are a straight rip off of the Atavus from E:FC's fifth season, though admittedly the wriath were pulled off a lot better that the Atavus. Instead of fleshing out the Wraith, they introduced the Asurians, which are EXACTLY the same things as the human form replicators from SG-1 (boring and tired). Only difference is that the Asurians use Lantean technology instead of replicator block tech, conveniently making them easier to fight. Now there are rumors of yet another powerful race being introduced in season 4. I'm really hoping they do something decent.

And to finish off, Lexx was a pretty damn good show, as long as you understood that IT WAS MEANT TO BE STUPID FUNNY, just like Red Dwarf, which was an amazing show. You also had to have seen the 4 movies that started the series off on Showtime. Oh and I forgot to mention The Invisible Man, another great show that sci-fi nixed before it's time after 2 seasons.

PS. This was not a rant in my opinion. I'm actually very amused by this back and forth banter. Relax and don't get so bent out of shape. It's just TV, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, you included. ;)
