Managed to catch this on BBC America the other night and have to say it's one of the toughest programs I've watched in a while.

If anyone isn't convinced the cruelty of conversion therapy or rejecting who you are,this helps drive it home.

The presenter wasn't the best but the program shows just how bad this therapy is. TJ is setting himself up for a lifetime of unhappiness,the "marriage" is going to self-destruct sooner or later and Skylar is the toughest one of all.
He already has a history of harming himself and instead of embracing him,his parents pull out the same old Adam and Eve crap so many religious parents do.
I'll say what I've said before..any parent that puts their religion or what neighbors and families think before their own child don't deserve to be called parents.
And don't get me started on the "ex-gays." Self loathing pieces of garbage that exist only to make $$$ and make everyone else as miserable as they are.

Sorry for the rant but it still angers me that in 2013,LGBT youth are still being forced to be subjected to this form of child abuse.
 
These deluded 'treatments' MUST be exposed and TV is an ideal medium.
This is just the sort of thing that the BBc should be lauded for
 
Indeed it is..and sad to say it proves a brutal truth. Many "parents" and family members who are homophobic for whatever reason aren't going to change their tune because their son or daughter comes out. Instead they'll push cruel programs like this on them.
They are setting up their child for suicide and don't care.
 
Nice show............ but I find "Embarrassing Bodies" on C4 more entertaining.

I wonder if these "Conversion therapists" can change a gay guy into a bi guy?
 
I saw it couple of months ago and it made me really sad. Seeing all those bright and kind young men going through such a harsh program.

Broke my heart,espescially Skylar. Like the presenter said,his history of harming himself already and his parents outright rejection and cruelty doesn't bode well for his future.
And as you said,you are watching bright and kind people have their souls destroyed simply for who they are.
I've worked with LGBT youth who have been rejected by their families..one of the hardest things you will ever do is hear these kids stories and not want to beat the crap out of their "parents."
 
I have to admit, she chose an EXCELLENT business to get into. There'll always be a steady stream of clientele, and even if the treatment 'fails' for some, there's likely no recourse because "they have to want to change before change can happen". I can hear it now.

Any sensible, intelligent human being knows that being gay isn't a choice, and therefore can't be un-chosen. The BEST lie ever told is "I used to be gay". Well, actually, it's a horrible lie, but it's a lie just the same. Being locked in a room with some beer and a hot guy will usually always prove them to be liars. Forcing people deeper into the closet doesn't make them straight. It just makes them closeted. You know, the kind of guys that go to public parks after sundown, or XXX theatres during the light of day. This is what most of them will resort to. I'm not judging...I've experimented with all of it, and had a lot of fun doing it. I wasn't hiding...I was just being a slut. :-)

Ahh well, it takes wierdos, too to make the world go 'round. I just hate to see so many perfectly normal gay people be disillusioned by this freak. One more person cashing in on human misery.

It "works" on bisexuals who can be with women and block their desire for men. Not so easy for the gays though.

Like I've often said before... most people who believe you can change sexuality are probably bi themselves.

Many of them don't have a choice. Others are so desperate to be accepted by their families they go. Doesn't work and sooner or later,it will come out.
As for parents who force kids into this...I hope they all get the same karma my one's friends "parents" did.
 
I actually started watching a bit of this yesterday, as I saw it on my local ABC's online streaming programme.
