Does anyone else have a beeping sound happen on there computer? It happens quite a bit even though my speakers are tunred off? Does it mean anything bad because i cant tell anything bads happening. Oh yeah its just a regular computer, not a mac or laptop. (!)

when does it beep? only during startup or also at other times?

It could be from a security monitor program.

Voltage problem or overheated components:

If the computer is actually functioning and the computer beeps continuously, then there is a problem with a voltage on the power supply being incorrect or the CPU overheating. Go into the BIOS and check CPU temperature, fan speed and voltages

You should also sniff around the unit to see if it smells like something may have burned inside.. If so, you might need a new power supply. (usually located on the back of the cabinet -- it includes a little fan)

if it happens when you first turn on the computer (boot up) then it's likely part of the computer's internal self checking diagnostic. i get a single beep shortly after boot up because it claims my memory is not the best configuration all though i have identical sticks of memory.

as mentioned above your computer does have an internal speaker and i'm sure that is where the beep is coming from.

i think everyone's covered the question quite well, if it's beeping during boot up, that's normal, if it's beeping during normal operation that CAN (and usually is) a BAD thing. neccessito more information.

WTF is a regular computer as opposed to a special one? Are you using the "Regular operating system"?

um .. no. when i get windows messages with ok or ok/cancel buttons etc my pc speaker beeps, too. i know windows is bad, but not that BAD ;)

Actually it only beeps in those situations if you do not have a sound card, or do not have it installed correctly. If you have a sound card and it's installed correctly, then those beeps from your deticated case speaker are cancled. If you are still having them and you have a sound card, then that's NOT normal. As i said, if you are hearing beeps from your PC's dedicated case speaker and your sound card is working and detected properly, and you're not booting, then that means problems.

i just happen to hate the stupid windows "ding" ;)

mine has a beeping sound when its doing a virus scan

/\ oh man that could be any number of things. you might be having an over heating issue. you might try taking the case cover off and using a can of compressed air to blow dust and stuff out of the vents and maybe the heat sink/fan that is attached to your processor. don't get the can like right up on anything, just kinda hold it a bit away. then turn the computer on and make sure the fans are all running.

those are just a couple of simple things you can do without too much work.
